Trinity's Floeck and Altman headline 2007 All-SCAC Men's Soccer Team

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the league’s head soccer coaches, Patrick Floeck and Kyle Altman - both of Trinity University - were selected the SCAC Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Year respectively for 2007. For Altman, it is the second consecutive year he has won the award.

In that same balloting, Mike Harris of DePauw University was tabbed SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, and Southwestern University's Don Gregory and Trinity's Paul McGinlay split the vote to share SCAC Coach-of-the-Year honors.

Patrick Floeck, a junior forward from Carrollton, Texas, led the league in scoring with 39 points on 18 goals and three assists. His 18 goals are the most a player has scored in the conference since 2003 and ties for the 12th-most in a single-season all-time. He was also the leading scorer in SCAC-only matches with nine goals and 20 points. Floeck is the seventh Trinity player to lead the league in scoring and the first since 2003. A Third Team All-SCAC selection last season, he was the SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 6.

In being selected the league’s Offensive POTY, Floeck received eight votes from the coaches. David Lozano of Southwestern
received the remaining three votes.

Kyle Altman, a senior defender from
Albuquerque, N.M., was a major part of a Trinity defense that led the SCAC in goals against average (0.40) as well as shutouts (12). A four-time All-SCAC performer and two-time First Team All-American, Altman was also a key contributor offensively for the Tigers, scoring four goals and assisting on six others for 14 points (seventh on the team). He is the first-ever repeat winner of the league's Defensive POTY award and just the second SCAC men's player to ever win back-to-back POTY awards (Will Lukow of Oglethorpe University was the SCAC Player-of-the-Year in 1992 and 1993).

Altman received five votes in the Defensive POTY voting, followed by Kevin O'Neil of Southwestern with three votes and David Mueller of Oglethorpe with two votes. Matt Samson of Colorado College received the remaining vote.

Mike Harris, a junior midfielder/forward from Columbus, Ohio, transfered to DePauw from Rochester and was a tremendous player for the Tigers all season. He scored seven goals, including a team-high four-game winners, and assisted on five other scores for 19 points (second on the team). Harris was even better in conference play, scoring five goals with two assists for 12 points in 10 games (tied for eighth in the SCAC).

Harris
received five votes in the Newcomer-of-the-Year voting, followed by Colorado College's Wil Nelp, who received three votes and Trinity's Cameron Hogsett, who received two votes. Garrett Evans of Austin College received the remaining coaches’ vote.

Coach Don Gregory led Southwestern to its second consecutive second-place finish in the SCAC this year as the Pirates posted a 7-2-1 mark in league play; 12-6-2 overall. Since taking over the reigns of the SU program in 1998, Gregory has turned it into one of the most competitive in the SCAC. Over the last five years, only Trinity has a better conference mark than the Pirates' SCAC record of 30-12-3. Gregory boasts an overall record of 105-72-16 at Southwestern and the Pirates have finished in the top three in the SCAC for four of the last five seasons.

Coach Paul McGinlay guided the Trinity men to another SCAC title, the program’s 11th overall and 10th in the last 12 years. McGinlay, in his 17th season as the head coach of the Tigers, has amassed an overall record of 279-53-19 (.822) which ranks fourth in Division III in winning percentage among active coaches. Trinity is currently 20-0-0 and ranked first in the nation as the team heads to NCAA Sectional play this weekend. Three years ago, McGinlay led Trinity to a 24-0-0 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship. McGinlay is a nine-time SCAC Coach of the Year honoree and has led his team to an undefeated and untied conference mark seven times in his career.

Gregory and McGinlay each received four votes from their peers in the COTY voting. Page Cotton of DePauw, in his final season with the Tigers, received two votes while Mark Hudson of Austin College received the remaining vote.
