Trinity's Wray and Centre's Anderson highlight 2007 All-SCAC Women's Soccer Team

SUWANEE, Ga. -
In exclusive voting by the head women’s soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Jennifer Wray of Trinity University was selected the Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Kate Anderson of Centre College was chosen the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

In the same balloting, Bailey Morgan of Rhodes College was voted the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year. Jack Flatau of Southwestern University was tabbed as SCAC Women’s Coach-of-the-Year.

Jennifer Wray, a senior forward from Abilene, Texas, led Trinity and finished second in the league in scoring with 35 points on 12 goals and 11 assists. She was even better in conference matches, scoring eight goals with seven assists for 23 points – eight points more than the next highest total in SCAC play. Wray, who had a league-high five game-winning goals this season, was also the SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year in 2005 as a sophomore. She is the first women's soccer player in conference history to win the award twice.

Wray, who was a three-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection this season, received nine votes for Offensive POTY. Akele Jeffers of Oglethorpe University received the remaining vote.

Kate Anderson, a junior sweeper from Louisville, Ky., spearheaded a Centre defense that posted nine shutouts as well as the league's lowest goals-against-average at 0.60 goals per game. Behind her strong tackling skills, Centre led the league in team defense for the first time in the 17-year history of the conference. Anderson, who chipped in offensively with a assist on the game-winning goal against Millsaps, was named SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 6.

Anderson received four votes in the very tight Defensive POTY balloting. Eryn Snyder of Southwestern finished second with three votes, while Jessica Koenig of Trinity followed with two votes. Katy Joyner of Rhodes College received the remaining vote.

Bailey Morgan of Rhodes, a first-year forward from Universal City, Texas, led the team and all SCAC newcomers in scoring in conference matches - tallying three goals (including one game-winner) and five assists for 11 points in nine games. She had five goals and six assists for the season for 16 points - good for second on the Rhodes squad. A fiery competitor, Morgan did an excellent job stepping in for the injured Melanie Sharry on the left wing.

The balloting for the Newcomer award was spread out among seven candidates, with Morgan receiving three votes. Leslie Robichaux of Millsaps College received two votes and Jordan Azar of Trinity, Fritsl Butler of Sewanee-University of the South, Amy Douglas of Southwestern, Kaitlin Elledge of Austin College and Stephanie Patton of DePauw all received one vote each.

Now in his 11th year as head coach, Jack Flatau has built the Southwestern University women's soccer program into a consistent winner over the last decade that culminated this season with a second-place finish in the SCAC standings - the highest-ever finish for the SU women since joining the conference in 1994. The Pirates finished 7-2-0 in conference, 13-5-0 overall - establishing high-water marks for wins in both categories. While at Southwestern, Flatau has compiled a 92-87-17 overall record with a 51-38-6 record in SCAC play.

In the balloting for COTY, Flatau received five votes, followed closely by Lance Key of Trinity with four votes. Paul Van Hooydonk of Millsaps College picked up the remaining vote.
