On Sunday, she led a defense that gave up just four shots on goal against Birmingham-Southern, and allowed only one shot combined in the two overtime periods, giving the offense a chance to win the contest. Brooks and Trinity’s defense held Wheaton to its lowest single game scoring output of the season at the time.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie McAuley of Centre came up with a few big saves that helped the Colonels to an overtime showdown with Rhodes. On the season, McAuley has allowed only six goals in over 800 minutes of play and has posted four shut-outs with a goals-against-average of 0.67. First-year defender Lauren Kjolhede of Southwestern put forth a solid effort for the Pirates on defense this past weekend. The team allowed just two goals in two games in posting a 1-1 record. The Pirates recorded a 4-0 shutout in their SCAC opener against Millsaps as Kjolhede posted her first career assist in the Southwestern win as she sent a ball in that was headed in to the net by A.J. Andreola. Austin, DePauw, Hendrix, Millsaps and Oglethorpe did not nominate anyone for the award, and Sewanee did not play.

WEEK 3

SCAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Monday, Sept. 10th through Sunday, Sept. 16th)

JEN DUNCAN OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior forward from Bedford, Texas has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September 16.

Duncan
led an offensive onslaught for the ’Roos as they outscored McMurry and the University of Dallas by a combined 15-1 score in two matches last week.

Duncan scored a hat trick and added an assist in the 8-0 win over McMurry, and finished off the week with an assist against Dallas. She netted 5-of-9 shots on goal while totaling eight points in the two victories.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder A.J. Andreola of Southwestern had a big game in the Pirates' only contest of the week. Andreola scored her first goal of the season and it was the game-winner. With the game tied at 1-1 against Mary Hardin-Baylor, Andreola put a header in goal off a corner kick. Later in the second half, she took a couple of quick passes and beat the Crusaders’ goalie for her second score of the game that put SU ahead 5-1. Sophomore midfielder Leslie Robichaux of Millsaps picked up the first eight points of her career, netting a pair of goals Friday in a 3-2 loss to Belhaven College and recording a goal and two assists in a 6-1 win over Division I foe Alcorn State University on Sunday. Currently, she is tied for the team lead in goals (3) and assists (2) and leads the Majors in points. Sophomore forward Marina Hoe of Centre played exceptionally well in the Colonels’ 4-0 win over Asbury College on Wednesday night. Scoring two goals and assisting on another, Hoe earned five points on the evening. For the season, she has totaled eight points in six matches. DePauw, Hendrix, Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Oglethorpe and Trinity did not play.

SCAC Women's Soccer
Defensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Monday, Sept. 10th through Sunday, Sept. 16th)

CARI HUBBARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior defender from Aledo, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September 16.

Hubbard anchored a defense that limited its opponents this past weekend to just one goal and three shots as the ‘Roos defeated McMurry 8-0 and the University of Dallas 7-1 with the lone goal coming on a penalty kick.

Hubbard also got into the scoring column in both games, finding the net once in each game against McMurry and Dallas. She needed just two shots to record her two goals.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Ashley Ivey of Centre has played well for the Colonels as of late. Her awareness and timing in the offensive attack was rewarded when she assisted on Marina Hoe’s first goal in Wednesday night’s match against Asbury College. Ivey's solid play has been a contributing factor to the Colonel’s strong defensive play. In the first three weeks of the season, Centre has allowed only three goals, posted three shutouts, and has a goals-against average of 0.50 (second in the SCAC). Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby of Millsaps picked up six saves in a 3-2 loss to Belhaven College before rebounding to shutout Alcorn State in first half action to record her third win of the season in five games. Sooby earned just two wins all last year in 14 appearances. DePauw, Hendrix, Rhodes, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award, and Oglethorpe and Trinity did not play.

WEEK 2

SCAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Monday, Sept. 3rd through Sunday, Sept. 9th)

CAROLINE VOELKEL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a senior midfielder from Covington, La., has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9.

Voelkel led the Lynx in two victories over American Southwest Conference competition over the weekend - including a 2-0 upset of fourth-ranked Hardin-Simmons on Friday.

Voelkel scored the game-winning goal against HSU - her second of the season - in the 38th minute on Friday night to break the Cowgirls' 33-game regular-season unbeaten streak.

That streak dated back to September 9, 2005, when they were beaten by another SCAC opponent - Trinity - in overtime in Abilene.

On Saturday against East Texas Baptist, Voelkel scored four goals including a first half true hat-trick (three consecutive goals) as Rhodes rolled to the 8-0 win.

For the season, Voelkel has six goals and one assist to give her a SCAC-high 13 points.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Michelle Story of Hendrix had four goals on the week, including the game-winner in the first minute in Sunday's 7-0 whitewashing of University of Dallas. Story had one goal against Southwestern (Kan.) College and a hat trick against Dallas - the first of her career. She made her four goals on just six shots. Story currently leads the Warriors in both goals scored (4) and points (8). Senior midfielder Jennifer Wray of Trinity scored two goals and assisted on two others over the weekend, helping Trinity secure two victories and even its record at 2-2 for the season. She has now scored a goal in three straight games. Wray got the Tigers going with the opening goal in both games, scoring the eventual game-winner against UT-Tyler in the 23rd minute on Friday night, and then finding the back of the net in the 19th minute on Sunday against UT-Dallas. She also assisted on goals in both games. For the season, Wray leads the Tigers with eight points overall, scoring three goals and two assists. Her Friday night game-winner was the first of this season for Wray, and the eighth game-winning goal of her career. Returning to her home state, first-year midfielder Hayley Nemeth of Millsaps
netted two goals in a rainy first half to give Millsaps its seventh-straight win over home-standing Louisiana College, 2-0. Nemeth's first career goal came in the 20th minute on an unassisted effort, beating Wildcat keeper Carla Lambert to give the Majors the early 1-0 lead. Junior midfielder Helen Heres of Austin had a strong weekend as the ’Roos defeated East Texas Baptist, 7-0, and fell in a tough match to No. 4 Hardin-Simmons, 1-0. Heres scored twice in the win over ETBU and played an outstanding game from her defensive midfield position as the ’Roos nearly took down Hardin-Simmons. Sophomore forward Marina Hoe of Centre played a pivotal role in the Colonels' 2-0 win over Allegheny on Saturday. Her vision of the field and sound distribution created both goal-scoring opportunities for Centre - giving Hoe two assists earned for the weekend. First-year forward Stephanie Patton of DePauw scored one goal and assisted on another in Sunday's 3-1 win over Earlham. Junior defender Kady Smith of Southwestern helped key the Pirates' 4-3 victory on Sunday over UT-Tyler as she scored her first goal of the year - a shot from the right side of the field that sailed over the goalie’s head and into the left side of the net. Smith also had an assist on the Pirates’ previous goal, feeding the ball forward for Amy Douglas to beat the goalie. Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award.

SCAC Women's Soccer
Defensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Monday, Sept. 3rd through Sunday, Sept. 9th)

LIZZIE WRIGHT OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior defender from Needham, Mass., has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9.

Wright's stellar defensive effort over the weekend helped the Lynx to two shut-out victories over American Southwest Conference opponents. Rhodes defeated fourth-ranked Hardin-Simmons (2-0) on Friday and East Texas Baptist (8-0) on Saturday.

On Friday night against HSU, Wright drew the unenviable task of marking the Cowgirl's all-America forward Amy Kuykendall and kept her from becoming a factor in the game.

In addition to helping hold ETBU to just three shots on Saturday night, Wright also scored a goal on a shot from 25 yards out.

The shutouts against HSU and ETBU were the Lynx' second and third of the 2007 season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Fifield of Trinity recorded eight saves in over 160 minutes in goal this weekend, leading Trinity to its first two wins of the young season. Fifield recorded three saves in a Friday night shutout win over UT-Tyler, then recorded five saves without allowing a goal in just over 75 minutes of action in Sunday’s win over UT-Dallas. Friday was the first shutout of the year for Fifield and the Tigers, breaking up the team’s two-game losing streak to open the season. For the season, Fifield has allowed three goals in over 345 minutes of action, though none of those goals were allowed this past weekend. She holds a GAA of 0.78 and has tallied 12 saves.
Senior goalkeeper Melissa Taylor of Hendrix started and played the full 90 minutes in both games this week for the Warriors and posted a shutout each time - extending her streak to three straight clean sheets. She also had seven saves. Taylor currently has posted 302 consecutive shutout minutes in goal and leads the SCAC with a 0.25 GAA. First-year goalkeeper Catherine Frampton of Sewanee held Randolph-Macon scoreless in a 2-0 shutout on Saturday. Frampton had 15 saves and allowed just one goal to Washington & Lee in Sunday's tough 1-0 loss to the 13th-ranked Generals. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby of Millsaps posted her sixth career clean slate and second in three games between the posts for the Majors in a full 90 minutes, stuffing a team-high three shots-on-goal from Lady Wildcat forward Marionne Caronel in a 2-0 shutout win for the Majors. Sooby is now 2-1 on the year with 27 saves and a 0.67 goals against average. Junior goalkeeper Brooke Shipley of DePauw recorded 13 saves in Tuesday's 1-0 overtime loss to University of Chicago and totaled 22 saves in the Tigers' three games. Junior defender Kate Anderson of Centre had a solid weekend as her ability to read and analyze the game helped the Colonels hold their opponents scoreless for approximately 268 minutes of play. Anderson is quickly becoming the glue of the Colonels' defense with her timing and ability to break up an attack. Austin, Oglethorpe and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.

WEEK 1

SCAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Friday, Aug. 31st through Sunday, Sept. 2nd)

CASEY GRIER OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Spring, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 31 through Sunday, September 2.

Grier
scored a pair of goals and was credited with one assist as the Pirates went 1-1 for the weekend.

In the 4-0 shutout of LeTourneau, Grier had an assist on the Pirates’ second goal of the game and then put SU ahead 4-0 during the 67th minute with an unassisted goal.

The following day, the Pirates faced #4 Hardin-Simmons and Grier scored the only Southwestern goal on a penalty kick with less than two minutes left in the game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Caroline Voelkel of Rhodes scored the first goal of the 2007 season for the Lynx and added an assist on the second to lead her team to a 3-0 victory over the Comets of the University of Texas at Dallas. Voelkel's game-winner came when she headed in a Melanie Sharry corner kick in the 16th minute. She then assisted Sharry just two minutes later to ensure the victory. The Lynx added an insurance goal in the second half to seal the victory. Voelkel led the Lynx in scoring in 2006 with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points (third in the SCAC). Junior forward Erin Sanford of Millsaps,
playing in her first collegiate game since 2005 after overcoming a knee injury, helped lead the Majors to their first season-opening road win in school history dating back to 1991, scoring off an assist from teammate Megan Sullivan to top Spelman College 1-0. Millsaps dropped its second game on a pair of own goals late in the second half despite excellent attacking from Sanford and the Majors who held a late 1-0 lead through the 70th minute. Junior midfielder Evey Gannaway of Sewanee scored the Tigers first goal of the season in the 10th minute of Saturday's 3-2 victory over visiting Fredonia State. Junior forward Holly Messamore of Austin, the ‘Roos leading scorer in each of her first two seasons, started off her junior campaign by scoring the only Austin College goal of the weekend. Her tally came at the 55:17 mark in a double overtime draw against the University of the Ozarks on a beautiful shot into the upper right hand corner of the goal. First-year midfielder Brittany Garr of Centre, a former NSCAA High School All-American, scored her first collegiate goal against regional foe, Ohio Northern. Garr played an exceptional match, making herself a threat in the attacking third of the field and putting the Polar Bear’s defense under pressure. Her ability to hold and effectively distribute the ball certainly aided in the Colonels' attack. DePauw, Hendrix, Oglethorpe and Trinity did not nominate anyone for the award.

SCAC Women's Soccer
Defensive Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played Friday, Aug. 31st through Sunday, Sept. 2nd)

MELISSA TAYLOR OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a senior goalkeeper from Little Rock, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 31 through Sunday, September 2.

Taylor
played the full 90 minutes in each of Hendrix's first two matches of the season - which produced a 1-0-1 start to the season for the Warriors.

Taylor finished the week with five saves and just one goal allowed and earned a clean sheet in Hendrix's 3-0 defeat of Louisiana College.

Her 0.50 goals against average is the best in the SCAC after the first weekend of the 2007 season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Lizzie Hubbard of Centre played a solid defensive game for the Colonels on Sunday afternoon against the Polar Bears. Her distribution out of the back, strong play, and ability to win the ball in the air helped the Colonels secure their first shut-out of the season. Hubbard came to the Colonels last season as a Division I transfer from Georgia Southern University. Sophomore defender Meredith Harris of Millsaps helped lead the Majors to a 1-0 shutout win over Spelman College in the season-opener, helping deflect several balls that entered Millsaps’ box away from goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby. With her strong leg, Harris also served the ball that eventually found the visitors net to put the Majors up 1-0 in their second game of the year in the 49th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Becca Clarin of Rhodes earned her first shutout of the 2007 season in the Lynx' 3-0 blanking of the Comets of the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday. Clarin, who led the SCAC in saves last season with 101, had six saves to preserve the shutout. Austin, DePauw, Oglethorpe, Sewanee, Southwestern and Trinity did not nominate anyone for the award.
