Trinity's Semmler and Koenig Headline 2006 All-SCAC Women's Soccer Team

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head women’s soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Trinity University’s Kate Semmler was selected the Offensive Player-of-the-Year and her teammate Jessica Koenig was chosen the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

In the same balloting, Laura Kromann of Southwestern was voted the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year. Lance Key of Trinity was tabbed as SCAC Women’s Coach-of-the-Year.

Kate Semmler (pictured left), a senior forward from Houston, Texas, led Trinity and finished second in the league in scoring with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists. Semmler, who had a team-high five game-winning goals this season, is the third-straight Trinity player to earn the league’s Offensive POTY award. She ends her career with 35 goals and 22 assists for 92 points – good for sixth all-time in Trinity history.

Semmler, who was a two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection this season, received four votes for Offensive POTY, followed by Allison Terry of Centre College and Mary Beth Robinson of DePauw University with three votes each.

Junior defender Jessica Koenig (pictured right) of Galveston, Texas, spearheaded a defense that posted 12 shutouts and allowed just 0.46 goals per game. The Trinity defense was even stiffer during conference matches, allowing a league-low two goals with seven shutouts in nine contests en route to the 2006 SCAC title. Koenig, who chipped in offensively with a game-winning goal against Sewanee, was named SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 5.

Koenig received five votes in the Defensive POTY balloting while Davis Federspiel of DePauw, last year’s winner of the award, finished second with two votes. Colleen Walsh of Austin College, Kate Anderson of Centre and Alix Stalnaker of Oglethorpe University all received one vote each.

Laura Kromann (pictured left) of Southwestern, a first-year midfielder from Austin, Texas, finished with four goals and three assists for 11 points – third-best on the team. The first goal of her career was memorable as it came in a 2-2 tie against nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons. Kromann is the first Southwestern women’s soccer player to ever win one of the league’s major post-season awards.

Kromann paced the Newcomer balloting with four votes, followed by Sarah MacGregor of DePauw and Bonnie Morscheiser of Oglethorpe who received two votes each. Berra Clarin of Rhodes College and Michelle Grambeau of Trinity received one vote each.

Lance Key (pictured right), in his third season as the head women’s soccer coach at Trinity, guided the program to a 16-1-2 overall record, a perfect 9-0-0 SCAC finish and the program’s 12th conference title  The Tigers finished the regular season as the nation’s top-ranked team. Trinity has racked up a 45-5-6 record (.857) during Coach Key’s tenure, including a trip to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in 2005. It is Key’s second SCAC COTY award.

In the balloting for COTY, Key received seven votes and Jay Hoffman of Centre received the remaining three votes.
