SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, April 14th through Sunday, April 20th)

KATE WRIGHT OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior outfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.

Wright led the Tigers to a four-game SCAC weekend series sweep at Hendrix College, securing the West Division’s top seed with the wins.

Wright hit .529 (9-17) with five runs and seven RBI in the series, cracking three doubles as well for a total of 12 bases in the four games. She also stole a base to tie the school record for steals in a single season.

She was 3-for-3 in the series-opening game to help Trinity to the win, then went 3-for-5 with four RBI in Sunday’s opener. In the series finale, she went 2-for-4 overall and sparked the team’s three-run rally in the seventh inning, scoring the game’s tying run. 

She also broke Trinity’s career steals record over the weekend, bringing her career total to 28 stolen bases.

For the season, Wright is hitting .339 (43-127) with 34 runs (third in the SCAC) and 21 RBI. She has stolen 11 bases this year (tied for fifth in the SCAC) to tie the school record, and is tied for second in school history with her 34 runs scored. In addition, Wright is 12-0 with an ERA of 2.02 this season as a pitcher, leading the team in both categories.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher/designated hitter Sara Bowen of Rhodes was 5-for-10 (.500) with a double, a home run and six RBI for the week. In the Lynx 8-0 win over Colorado College on Saturday, she was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and also tossed a no-hitter to lead the Lynx in the circle. In Sunday's second game, she was 2-for-2, hitting her first career home run, a three-run shot in the fifth inning to give the Lynx a 5-0 lead. Senior infielder Lindsey Willett of Centre hit .364 (8-22) on the week with six runs scored and four more driven in as the Colonels went 4-2. Willett had at least one hit in each of Centre's six games extending her hitting streak to 12 games. The senior also drove in a run and scored at least one run in four of the six games. Willett had multiple hit games against LaGrange (2-4) and Piedmont (2-4) while stealing five bases in five attempts. She also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 25 chances. Willett is currently hitting .409 for Centre and is 22 of 24 in stolen base attempts. First-year centerfielder Brooke Monson of Hendrix was a combined 11-for-22 this week with four doubles, two walks, eight runs scored, five RBI and just one strike out. Monson tallied a .682 slugging percentage and .542 on-base percentage during the six-game spread. Colorado College did not nominate anyone for the award, and Austin CollegeDePauw, Millsaps and Sewanee did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, April 14th through Sunday, April 20th)

DANA BARTOLOMEI OF RHODES COLLEGE, a senior right-hander from Des Moines, Iowa, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.

Bartolomei ended her career with a bang, going 3-1 on the week, giving up just four earned runs in 27 innings pitched (1.03 ERA) while striking out 28 batters and allowing just one extra base hit.

On Saturday versus Colorado College, Bartolomei allowed just five hits and struck out nine, taking a shutout into the seventh inning as the Lynx defeated the Tigers 4-1. On Sunday, she pitched her final two games as a Lynx, throwing back-to-back shutouts against Colorado College, leading the Lynx to 1-0 and 5-0 wins. In the first game, Bartolomei faced just one batter over the minimum, allowing just an infield single in the second inning. In game two, she allowed just four singles, tossing her fifth shutout of the season and improving her record to 8-6 (tied for fourth in the SCAC in wins) and her ERA to 1.94 (second in the SCAC).

Bartolomei ends her career averaging a SCAC-best 9.25 strikeouts per 7.0 innings pitched and second all-time in the SCAC in strikeouts (422).

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Kate Wright of Trinity earned the win in three of the team’s four games this weekend, leading the Tigers to a four-game SCAC series sweep at Hendrix College. Wright won the first three games of the series, and finished the weekend with a 2.88 ERA in 17 innings pitched. She started the first game on Saturday and Sunday, earning complete-game victories in both. In Saturday’s extra-inning game, Wright pitched the final three innings to give the Tigers a shot to win in the 10th. For the season, Wright is 12-0 with an ERA of 2.02 in 83.1 innings of work. She has struck out 30 batters – nine of which came this weekend – and has eight complete games in 10 starts. She is also hitting .339 offensively with 34 runs and 21 RBI, stealing 11-11 bases. Sophomore right-hander Tyler Travis of Centre recorded a 2-1 record on the week with a 2.70 era in tossing three complete games, including two complete-game shutouts. In the Colonels 5-0 win over Thomas More, Travis hurled seven innings of five-hit softball striking out five while not allowing a walk. The sophomore pitcher returned Saturday and tossed a three-hit seven-inning shutout in a 4-0 win over LaGrange. Travis struck out eight and walked only one in the victory. She was the tough luck loser in Centre's 6-5 loss to Piedmont the following day striking out three in six innings of work. Travis is now 7-8 on the year with 13 complete games and four shutouts. First-year right-hander Sarah Hightower of Hendrix tossed the Warriors’ first complete-game shutout of the season on Wednesday against Rhodes. The victory sealed a spot for Hendrix in the SCAC post season tournament and improved Hightower to 6-9 overall. She yielded four hits, four strikeouts and just one walk in the seven-inning affair. Colorado College did not nominate anyone for the award, and Austin College, DePauw, Millsaps and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 8

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, April 7th through Sunday, April 13th)

JULIA HUBBARD OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a senior designated hitter from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.

Hubbard had a huge weekend in helping Centre to four wins over Sewanee - hitting .667 (10-15) with 13 runs driven in and scored 11 more.

Of her 10 hits, Hubbard had two doubles and three home runs, including two grand slams to finish with 21 total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage.

In the opening doubleheader of the weekend, Hubbard was 5 for 6 with four runs scored and seven driven in. She then went 5 for 9 with seven runs scored and six driven in on Sunday.

Hubbard is now hitting .394 on the season (sixth in the SCAC) and slugging .616 (fifth in the SCAC) for the Colonels with a team-high 30 runs batted in (tied for fourth in the SCAC). She has 11 doubles (tied for third in the SCAC) and three home runs (tied for seventh in the SCAC) among her 39 hits (tied for seventh in the SCAC).

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore third baseman Kelly Schwerzler of DePauw batted .545 (6-11) with six runs scored and one RBI as the Tigers swept four games from Millsaps in SCAC East Division play. She also walked twice and stole three bases as DePauw improved its consecutive game win streak to 33 - tied for the fourth-longest win streak in Division III softball history.
First-year infielder Christina Byler of Hendrix led the Warriors this weekend with eight hits, a double, a home run, three runs scored and three RBI against Colorado College. Senior first baseman Nicole Scommegna of Colorado College went 7-for-7 in two games on Friday, on her way to 8-for-13 for the weekend (.615). She had one RBI and a run scored, and raised her season average to .314. Junior outfielder Krista Prato Matthews of Trinity led the team in hitting last weekend, helping the team to a weekend split in SCAC play that kept Trinity atop the SCAC West Division standings. Prato Matthews hit .455, in the four games last week, collecting five hits in 11 at-bats and scoring two runs. She also drove in five runs to lead the team, and hit her first career home run on Sunday afternoon. For the season, Prato Matthews is hitting .395 (17-43) with 12 runs and 12 RBI, playing in just 14 games – joining the team mid-year after her basketball season ended. First-year first baseman Stefanie Faith of Austin College moved into a tie for the second-most homers in a single season in SCAC history when she belted her 11th of the year against Trinity over the weekend. Faith drove in three runs as the ‘Roos split with the Tigers while hitting .400, and added two doubles to move into a tie for most in the conference. Faith also scored twice and had a slugging percentage of .733 for the week.  Millsaps and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Rhodes did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, April 7th through Sunday, April 13th)

MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Carmel, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.

Soultz went 4-0, picking all four wins for the Tigers in their series sweep of Millsaps. She pitched 22.0 innings, allowing just 13 hits and four earned runs (1.27 ERA) while striking out 19 and walking only two.

Soultz, who leads the SCAC in all pitching categories, is now 29-1 on the season with an ERA of 0.78 in 188.1 innings of work. She has struck out 200 batters and opponents are batting just .168 against her.

With at least the SCAC Championships to be played, Soultz's win total of 29 has already shattered the former SCAC single-season mark (20) as has her 200 strikeouts, which is 38 more than the former mark (162).

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore right-hander Tyler Travis of Centre earned two complete-game wins over Sewanee last weekend to help the Colonels sweep a four-game series. Travis threw a three-hit five-inning shutout with eight strikeouts in Centre's series opening win. She then tossed a five inning one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in Sunday's first game. For the weekend, Travis pitched 10 innings, allowing only four hits and no runs while striking out 15 Tigers. She is now 5-7 on the season in 85.1 innings pitched. First-year right-hander Jaclyn Herrera of Hendrix picked up two wins and was 2-0 over the weekend against Colorado College. She allowed just one run in the first inning of Friday’s night cap and yielded just eight hits, one walk and four strikeouts in her 10th complete game of the season. On Saturday, Herrera tossed another complete game and gave up just seven hits and two earned runs for her fourth win of the year. First-year right-hander Brittany Gaertner of Austin College tossed two complete game wins as the ‘Roos split their weekend series with division leading Trinity, posting a 2.50 earned run average for the weekend after allowing just five runs in 14.0 innings of work. Gaertner scattered 14 hits over the weekend and only walked two batters. In Saturday’s 5-1 win, Gaertner threw six shutout innings before the Tigers got a run late. Gaertner also helped herself at the plate during the series, hitting .364 with three doubles and four runs batted in. Junior pitcher Kate Wright of Trinity led the Tigers with a 2-0 record last week, as well as posting an ERA of 3.00 in her two starts, earning the team a four-game series split with Austin College. She struck out a career-high five batters in a 4-3 win to open the series on Saturday, then pitched the team to a 6-4 win in Sunday’s first game. Wright allowed seven runs on 16 hits, but improved her record to 9-0 this season. In addition to her pitching performances, Wright also went 6-15 (.400) at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a pair of bases to give her a career-best total of 10 steals. For the season, Wright is 9-0 with a 1.79 ERA, posting six complete games – two shutouts – in her eight starts. She has struck out 21 batters in 66.1 innings and opponents are hitting just .241 against her this year. Colorado College, Millsaps and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Rhodes did not play.
 


WEEK 7

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th)

ASHLEE ANTON OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a first-year first baseman from Worth, Ill., and MICHELLE GOSSEIN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior third baseman/catcher from Albuquerque, N.M., have been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6.

Anton broke the school's single-season record with her fifth home of the year in the series finale against Centre on Sunday.

Anton
hit .705 (12-17) over the final six games of the week and was 7-for-11 (.636) in the Centre series with a slugging percentage of 1.545.

For the week, Anton was 12-for-22 (.545) with one double and three home runs. She scored eight runs, drove in 13 and finished with a 1.000 slugging percentage.

For the season, Anton is batting .384 (11th in the SCAC) and slugging .628 (sixth in the SCAC) with 35 RBI (second in the SCAC), 54 total bases (fourth in the SCAC) and five home runs (tied for third in the SCAC).

Gossein
led Trinity to a four-game SCAC sweep at Colorado College last weekend, keeping the team undefeated and atop the SCAC West Division standings.

Gossein was 10-for-16 (.625) at the plate, scoring five runs and finishing with 11 RBI. She had a double, a triple, and two homers for 19 total bases (1.188 slugging %).

In Saturday’s 9-7 win that Trinity scored five runs in the sixth to win, Gossein had a record-tying two homers to push the team to the win.

For the season, Gossein is now second on the team with a .372 batting average (13th in the SCAC), collecting 35 hits in 94 at-bats. She leads the team with 27 RBI (fourth in the SCAC) and 62 total bases (second in the SCAC), scoring 17 runs. Her six home runs (second in the SCAC) are a new Trinity record for a single season, and she has also tied Trinity’s career record for homers. Gossein also has seven doubles (tied for sixth in the SCAC) this season, and this weekend marked her first triple of the year.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year first baseman Stefanie Faith of Austin College helped power the ‘Roos to three wins over Rhodes last week, launching two home runs and driving in eight RBI while also hitting .467 at the dish. Faith had seven hits on the week, including two doubles, and scored five runs. She had 15 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Faith’s two homers gave her 10 on the year, while she passed the 40 RBI mark and leads the SCAC with 41 runs driven in.
Sophomore third baseman Page Honsbruch of Colorado College increased her team-high batting average to .455 over the weekend. In the four-game series against Trinity, Honsbruch went 10-for-16, had six RBI, and scored four runs. Sophomore catcher Jennifer Whatley of Rhodes continued her hot hitting, going 7-for-15 on the week with two doubles and three RBI, and is hitting .607 (17-28) since March 26.  Senior second baseman Lindsey Willett of Centre had a strong week for the Colonels hitting .417 (5-12) against one of the top pitchers in the country. In the Colonels four losses to DePauw, Willett recorded two multiple-hit games, scored a run, drove in another and had a double. The senior is now hitting .405 on the season to lead the Colonels. Hendrix, Millsaps and Sewanee did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th)

SARA BOWEN OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year right-hander from Nolensville, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6.

Bowen
pitched 31 1/3 innings on the week, and despite going 0-3, set a new NCAA Division III single-game record in Saturday's 13-inning loss to Austin College.

In that historic game, Bowen struck out 23 batters, breaking the DIII single-game record of 21 set by Jennifer Martinez of St. Joseph's (Long Island). 

On the week, Bowen posted a 1.34 ERA and fanned 43 hitters in 31.1 innings of work.


For the season, Bowen is 2-7 with an ERA of 3.41 (ninth in the SCAC) in 61.2 innings of work. She leads the team with 89 strikeouts (second in the SCAC) and opponents are hitting just .234 off her (fifth in the SCAC).

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore right-hander Megan Soultz of DePauw allowed just 23 hits and struck out 38 in 39.0 innings of work - finishing the week with an ERA of 0.36 (two earned runs). With her shutout of Illinois Wesleyan, Soultz extended her single-season (11) and career (20) school records for shutouts. With her first win over Illinois College she broke the DePauw single-season victory record and with the second, Soultz broke the SCAC win record. Sophomore right-hander Karen Fisher of Trinity went 2-0 with a team-best ERA of 1.91 last weekend, helping the Tigers to a four-game SCAC sweep at Colorado College. Fisher came on in relief in Saturday’s second game, pitching the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run to a team that had scored seven runs in the first 4.2 innings of the game. Fisher held Colorado College to just two hits after the home team had hammered out 12 hits in the early going. On Sunday, Fisher started her first game in nearly a month, giving up just two earned runs to take the win. In addition to her pitching, Fisher went 8-15 (.533 average) at the plate with three runs and nine RBI. She had a team record-tying six RBI in Sunday’s series finale. For the season, Fisher is 3-5 with a 3.28 ERA this season. She is second on the team with 16 strikeouts, appearing in 10 games this year. Sunday was her third complete game of the year in six starts. First-year right-hander Ashley Johnson of Austin College picked up her sixth and seventh wins of the season as the ‘Roos took three of four from Rhodes. Johnson went all 13 innings in a 5-4 win and added a 3-1 victory on Sunday to go 2-0 for the week. Johnson struck out 10 batters while walking just three, and of the five runs she allowed only three were earned. Johnson limited the Lynx to 14 hits in 20.0 innings of work, getting two complete games in the week. Centre and Colorado College did not nominate anyone for the award, and Hendrix, Millsaps and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 6

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 24th through Sunday, March 30th)

SARA HUNTER OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a junior third baseman from Corona, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30.

Hunter went 9-for-12 (.750) with three runs scored, three doubles, one homer, three walks and four RBI on the week. 

Her two-run dinger in the third inning of the night cap against Rhodes put Hendrix ahead for the team's second SCAC win of the year. 

In the field, Hunter committed no errors with eight put outs and eight assists.


Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Junior rightfielder Chelsy Patterson of DePauw hit .520 (13-25) with nine runs scored and four RBI as the third-ranked Tigers extended their school-record win streak to
21 straight games after winning all eight games at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. Senior outfielder Monica Vonderbrink of Centre had a big week for the Colonels hitting .444 (8-18) in helping Centre to a 4-2 record on the week. Vonderbrink scored four runs and drove in eight more with three doubles and a grand slam to go along with two stolen bases in as many attempts. The senior had a huge doubleheader in a sweep of Mount St. Joseph. Vonderbrink combined to go 6 for 8 with eight runs batting in, including a double and grand slam. She finished the week with 14 total bases and a .778 slugging percentage in six games. First-year first baseman/outfielder Olivia Ryan of Rhodes hit .500 on the week (6-12) with seven runs scored, eight RBI, a home run and a double. In Rhodes’ 11-4 win over Hendrix, she was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and an RBI. In the third inning, she tied the game at 1 and ignited the Rhodes offense by belting her first career home run. First-year first baseman Stefanie Faith of Austin College had another big week at the dish for Austin College as the ‘Roos took two of three from Colorado College. Faith hit .400 (6-of-15) with five doubles on the week, scoring six runs while driving in eight more. She had 11 total bases and a .733 slugging percentage. Sophomore third baseman Jennifer McKinley of Millsaps, in the Majors’ only competition of the week, went a combined 5-for-7 (.714) from the plate in a doubleheader sweep of the Ozarks (Ark.) on Saturday with four runs scored, two RBIs and her team-leading fourth home run of the year. She also grabbed eight total bases, slugged 1.143 and carried an on-base percentage of .750 to help Millsaps to its school-record best 13th-straight win. Sophomore infielder Christina Carni of Trinity hit .500 (4-8) in Trinity’s only two games last week, leading the team to a split in a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran University. Carni drove in two runs to tie for the team lead and hit one of only two doubles in the two games for the Tigers. She collected two hits in each game, and leads Trinity with 11 multi-hit games this season. For the season, Carni is second on the team with a .364 (28-77) batting average, scoring 14 runs and driving home six more. She also has two doubles and one triple this season. Sophomore third baseman Page Honsbruch of Colorado College went 6-for-13 with a walk over the four-game series. She scored twice, stole a base, and drove in the first run in CC's win with a sixth inning double. Honsbruch now leads the Tigers with a .417 BA. Sewanee did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 24th through Sunday, March 30th)

MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Carmel, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30.

Soultz went 6-0 on the week with an ERA of 0.36. She allowed just two earned runs in 39.1 innings of work and struck out 49 batters while allowing only four free passes.

For the season, Soultz is 19-1 with an ERA of 0.82 in 127.1 innings of work. Her 19 wins is already the second-most in a single-season in SCAC history - tying her total from last season. She has yielded just 74 hits in her 22 appearances, giving up 18 total runs – 15 of which have been earned. Soultz has struck out 143 batters and opponents are hitting just .168 against her this season.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Senior right-hander Dana Bartolomei of Rhodes went 2-0 on the week, pitching 12 innings, giving up just seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out 26. In Rhodes win over Rust, she tossed her second career perfect game, striking out all 15 hitters she faced, then followed that up with a strong performance as Rhodes defeated Hendrix 11-4.  Against Hendrix, Bartolomei gave up seven hits and three earned runs, while notching 11 strikeouts. First-year right-hander Ashely Johnson of Austin College picked up two wins in the ‘Roos four game series against Colorado College, posting a 1.40 ERA over the weekend after giving up just three earned runs (five overall) in 15.0 innings of work. Johnson struck out 11 batters, including seven in a series opening victory on Saturday, against only three walks. She scattered 16 hits over her three appearances and threw two complete games. Sophomore right-hander Charlotte Jones of Centre College won a pair of games in helping the Colonels go 4-2 this week. Jones hurled 17.0 innings, allowing eight earned runs in completing all three of her starts. Sophomore right-hander Kasey Thibodeaux of Millsaps
tossed a complete-game, 1-hit shutout over the University of the Ozarks in her only appearance of the weekend in an 8-0, run-rule win, scattering seven strikeouts against just one walk. It marked the first time all season the Lady Eagles had been shutout (17 games) as Thibodeaux won her sixth-straight decision to improve to 7-2 overall with a team-leading 1.82 ERA and three shutout victories. Junior right-hander Kate Wright of Trinity posted a victory in the first game of the only doubleheader of the week for the Tigers, ensuring a split against Texas Lutheran University. She held an ERA of 1.70 for the day, giving up just three earned runs in 12.1 innings of work. Wright threw her second straight shutout in game one, giving up just four hits in the opener. She came on in game two, slowing down the Texas Lutheran bats that had scored nine runs in the first two innings. For the season, Wright is 5-0 with an ERA of 0.87, leading the team in both categories. She has two complete-game shutouts in four starts this year, giving up just five earned runs – 10 runs total – in 40.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .187 against her this season. First-year right-hander Sarah Hightower of Hendrix picked up a pair of wins with two complete-games in four appearances. Hightower improved to 4-6 on the year with a 7.16 earned run average. She yielded five hits, four runs (all earned), four walks and five strike outs against University of the Ozarks on Tuesday. Hightower then gave up eight hits, three runs (two earned) and struck out one batter for her second win of the week against the Lynx. She pitched 0.1 innings in the opener against Ozarks and 0.2 innings in the opener against Rhodes. Colorado College and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 5

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 17th through Sunday, March 23rd)

STEFANIE FAITH OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year first baseman from Rowlett, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23.

Faith
put on a one person home run derby in the ‘Roos weekend series against Hendrix. She belted five home runs and drove in 13 runs while hitting .583 (7-of-12) and scored six runs as Austin College took three of four from the Warriors. 

Faith hit a two-run shot in a 6-5 win on Friday and followed that up with a solo shot, a two run shot, and a three run shot in a 10-6 win, and wrapped up the weekend with a grand slam in an 8-5 victory. 

Faith, who is leading the SCAC with 21 RBI and eight home runs, also boasted a slugging percentage of 1.833 for the week.


Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year first baseman Karoline Kremers of Millsaps
launched her first career home runs in a 4-game sweep of Centre College at home, hitting a grand slam and a three-run homer in Game 2 of the series that led to a 11-3, run-rule win. The freshman slugged .867 on the weekend while posting a .400 average (6-for-15) with 13 total bases, 10 RBIs, four runs scored and a pair of homers. She currently ranks second in the league with 19 total RBIs, two behind the leader Stefanie Faith of Austin College. Junior outfielder Kate Wright of Trinity led the Tigers to a four-game SCAC weekend series sweep over Rhodes College in the team’s only action last week, taking the early lead in the SCAC West Division. Wright held a batting average of .500 for the weekend, going 6-12 at the plate, with seven runs scored and a pair of RBI. Wright also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch to post an on-base percentage of .625, and stole a pair of bases as well. Wright reached base at least twice in every game over the weekend, scoring two runs in three different games. She also pitched in two of the games, earning two wins without giving up an earned run. For the season, Wright is hitting .268 (19-71) with 18 runs scored and six RBI. She has cracked three doubles and two homers this year, and has drawn a team-high 12 walks. Wright also leads the team with six stolen bases in six attempts. First-year second baseman Hanna Braden of Hendrix batted .769 against the Kangaroos this weekend. Braden was 10-for-13 with five runs, two doubles and three RBI. She tallied a .923 slugging percentage and .778 on-base percentage. Braden also made 16 put outs and committed just one error over the four-game series. Senior second baseman Lindsey Willett of Centre hit .500 (7-14) in six games for the Colonels scoring nine runs and driving in two more from the lead-off spot. Willett went hitless in Centre's first game against Millsaps, but scored two runs and walked once. She then went 3-for-5 in the remaining three games of the series scoring four runs, walking twice and stealing two bases. In Centre's sweep of Franklin, Willett was 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two more driven in. She had three doubles and walked once in the two games. Colorado College, Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and DePauw did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 17th through Sunday, March 23rd)

KATE WRIGHT OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right-hander from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23.

Wright led the Tigers to a four-game sweep in SCAC play last weekend, beating Rhodes College at home to open conference play.

Wright pitched in two of the four games, posting a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. She allowed just two unearned runs in 13 innings of work, giving up just six total hits and striking out four batters.

To open the second day of action, Wright tossed a four-hit shutout – the first complete game and first shutout of her career. 

She also hit .500 (6-12) at the plate and led the team with seven runs scored.

For the season, Wright is 4-0 with an ERA of 0.50 in 28 innings of work. She has yielded just 18 hits in her seven appearances, giving up seven total runs – only two of which have been earned. Wright has struck out seven batters and opponents are hitting just .175 against her this season.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year right-hander Erica VanHoosen of Colorado College
led the Tigers to their only win of the week with a complete game shutout of Huntingdon in Tuesday's second game. The freshman struck out eight and walked only one in the 1-0 win, and held Huntingdon to just two hits. VanHoosen also pitched well against Emory on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs (four total) in six innings. First-year right-hander Laura Litton of Millsaps went 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA in two appearances (one start) over the weekend to win her sixth-straight decision and move to 6-1 on the year. The freshman helped Millsaps to a 4-0 sweep over Centre College in its opening SCAC weekend, holding opponents to a .179 batting average while tossing 8.0 innings and surrendering just five hits with one combined shutout. Austin College, Centre, Hendrix, Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and DePauw did not play.
 


WEEK 4

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 10th through Sunday, March 16th)

CAROLYN BARTLETT OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior centerfielder from Glen Ellyn, Ill, and SAM HILL OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a sophomore shortstop from Birmingham, Ala., have been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16.

Bartlett batted .579 (11-19) with four runs scored and nine driven in as the sixth-ranked Tigers went 7-0 on the week - including a perfect 5-0 mark against SCAC West opponents at Ridgeland, Miss.

She had two doubles and a triple among her 11 hits and also stole a base

Hill
put in perhaps her best weekend in a Millsaps uniform this past weekend, hitting .577 from the plate (15-for-26) with 19 total bases, 12 runs scored, seven RBIs and four doubles to push her team-best average out to .473 through 17 games. 

The sophomore also carried a .731 slugging percentage and .621 on-base percentage to help the Majors go 7-0 in their tournament at Freedom Ridge Park and push them over the .500 mark for the first time since 2005.

Hill currently leads the team in total bases (35), hits (26), runs (18), RBIs (14) and doubles (nine).

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week

MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Carmel, Ind., and KASEY THIBODEAUX OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a sophomore right-hander from Youngsville, La., have been selected the SCAC Softball Co-Pitchers-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16.

Soultz
was a perfect 7-0 during the week, pitching 40.0 innings and allowed just eight earned runs to post an ERA of 1.40. She allowed only 30 hits in the seven games and struck out 40 batters while walking just four. Soultz allowed no runs her last 22.0 innings of the week.

Soultz is now 13-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.05.

Thibodeaux continued her dominance in the circle for the Majors at the Millsaps Softball Classic this past weekend in Ridgeland, posting a 3-0 record with two complete game shutouts and a 1.22 ERA. 

The sophomore tossed a combined 23.0 innings, scattering 12 strikeouts against four walks while surrendering just six runs (four earned). Thibodeaux held opponents to a .188 batting average in 85 plate appearances and allowed only 16 hits to improve to 5-2 on the year with a 1.35 ERA. 

Millsaps is over the .500 mark for the first time since 2005 and is riding a 7-game winning streak – the longest since 2003.

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week

PAIGE HONSBRUCH OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore third baseman from Grinnell, Iowa, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3 through Sunday, March 9.

Honsbruch
helped the Tigers to the team's first two wins of the season as she batted .636 (7-11) in the four-game set against University of Dallas.

Honsbruch, who also walked twice to reach base nine times in 13 plate appearances,
drove in five runs, scored four, and now leads the team with a .500 average and 16 hits. 

Her bases-loaded triple, on which she also scored, put Saturday's second game out of reach in the first inning.


Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year shortstop Allison Conn of Rhodes was 7 for 13 on the week (.538), with two doubles, two RBI and six runs scored, as the Lynx opened the season with a 3-1 start. In the Lynx 5-0 win over Millsaps on Sunday, Conn was 4 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. For the day against Millsaps, she was 6 for 7 with four runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Bobbi Schulle of Austin College batted .833 at the plate in a two game series with LeTourneau as the ‘Roos got their first win of the season and took the Lady Jackets to extra innings in game two. In the second game, Schulle was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, and for the week scored two runs, had a double, and drove in three runs.  She had a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week.
Junior infielder Lee Smith of Trinity hit .571 (4-7) last week, leading Trinity to a doubleheader sweep of the College of St. Scholastica. Smith finished with a double and a triple among her four hits, putting her slugging percentage at 1.000 for the week. She also drew a walk and held a .625 on-base percentage. Smith also led the team with four RBI for the Tigers. For the season, Smith has now improved her batting average to .256 over 12 games played, recording 10 hits in 39 at-bats. She has six RBI on the year, and seven of her season total of 14 bases came this week. Sophomore infielder Jennifer McKinley of Millsaps went 2-for-4 (.500) from the plate with a double and an RBI-single to help Millsaps earn a weekend split at Rhodes. McKinley also drew four walks and en route to a .750 on-base percentage. Hendrix did not nominate anyone for the award and Centre, DePauw and Sewanee did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, March 3rd through Sunday, March 9th)

CINDY BITTERS OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year right-hander from Millstadt, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3 through Sunday, March 9.

Bitters gave up just one run on four hits, while striking out 14 in her college debut as the Lynx topped MacMurray by a score of 7-1.

Bitters also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Sirina Milsap of Colorado College 
had a dominant start on Saturday's second game, pitching a no-hitter through 5.2 innings, and finished with a one-hitter and eight strikeouts in seven innings. She came on in relief just two outs into the first frame of Game 2 on Sunday, and gave up one earned run the rest of the way (three total) while striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work. In her two appearances, Milsap struck out 15 in 13.1 innings and had a 0.53 ERA. Sophomore right-hander Karen Fisher of Trinity finished off a Friday doubleheader by leading the team to a 7-0 shutout victory over the College of St. Scholastica. Fisher tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout in the game, striking out five batters for the Tigers. It was the second shutout of her career, having blanked Hendrix in March of last year. For the season, Fisher is now 1-4 with a team-leading ERA of 2.92 in 24 innings of work. Fisher has two complete games in her four starts, allowing just 10 earned runs and striking out nine batters. First-year right-hander Brittany Gaertner of Austin College picked up the first win of her collegiate career along with the ‘Roos first victory of the season, a 4-2 decision over LeTourneau. Gaertner threw a complete game, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run and two runs overall. Sophomore right-hander Kasey Thibodeaux of Millsaps, in her lone appearance of the weekend, held batters to a .167 average and led the Majors to a 6-3 win behind a complete game performance. Thibodeaux scattered four hits and six strikeouts while allowing only two runs to post a 1-0 record with a 2.00 ERA. Hendrix did not nominate anyone for the award and Centre, DePauw and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 2

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Feb. 25th through Sunday, March 2nd)

CHELSY PATTERSON OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior rightfielder from Indianapolis, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 25 through Sunday, March 2.

Patterson
hit .429 (6-14) and slugged .786 with a triple and a home run as the eighth-ranked Tigers went 4-0 last week, including a victory over 14th-ranked Coe (Iowa) College.

Patterson drove in five runs and scored three times.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore infielder Sam Hill of Millsaps
added to her .409 batting average and pushed her hitting-streak out to seven games by going a combined 5-for-8 (.625) from the plate in a 1-3 weekend for the Majors. Hill grabbed seven total bases with two doubles and two RBIs, carrying a .875 slugging percentage on the road trip to go along with a perfect fielding percentage on the defensive side. Junior shortstop Jamie Williams of Trinity hit .400 (4-10) to lead the team in hitting, as Trinity lost four games by a total of five runs in two doubleheaders. Williams scored four runs and drove in two more, as well as leading the team with a .533 on-base percentage. She also had a double and stole a base for the Tigers last week. For the season, Williams leads the team with a .407 batting average, collecting 11 hits in 27 at-bats.  She has scored a team-best 11 runs and driven in four more. She also leads the team with four doubles and two steals this season. Austin College, Colorado College, Centre and Hendrix did not nominate anyone for the award and Rhodes and Sewanee did not play.

SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Feb. 25th through Sunday, March 2nd)

MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-6, sophomore right-hander from Carmel, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 25 through Sunday, March 2. It is the second consecutive week she has won the award.

Soultz pitched her second career no-hitter last week in a 12-0 victory over Transylvania on Sunday.

She was 4-0 on the week, working 26.0 innings while allowing two earned runs and just nine hits. She struck out 39 and walked only two.

After surrendering a leadoff homer to Maryville (Mo.) on Saturday, Soultz pitched 20 consecutive shutout innings while allowing just five hits.

She tied a school record with 13 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout of 14th-ranked Coe (Iowa) College.

Other outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore right-hander Kasey Thibodeaux of Millsaps, in two appearances on the weekend, tossed two complete games and recorded a combined 13 strikeouts to post a 1-1 record with a 1.40 ERA. She gave up just seven runs (three earned) in 15.0 innings of work. First-year pitcher Brittany Gaertner of Austin College had a strong outing against second-ranked Plattsburg State. Gaertner allowed just one earned run and three runs overall in six innings of work - scattering eight hits in the process. Colorado College, Centre, Hendrix and Trinity did not nominate anyone for the award and Rhodes and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 1

SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Sunday, Feb. 10th through Sunday, Feb. 24th)

RACHEL GILL OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior catcher from St. Louis, Mo., has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Sunday, February 10 through Sunday, February 24.

Gill
hit .545 for the week with at least one hit in all three games as DePauw opened with a 2-1 mark in its first games of the 2008 season.

In Saturday's 2-1 win against 13th-ranked Emory, Gill singled in the first run of the game in the eighth inning and later scored what proved to be the winning run in that same inning. She also drove in the winning run in Sunday's 8-0 win over Piedmont.

For the week, Gill drove in four runs on six hits and also scored twice.

Senior outfielder/catcher Laura Seewald of Colorado College
went 6 for-12 in the four games this week, and had five RBI. For the year, she leads the team in batting at .500, slugging at .625, and in RBI with six. First-year catcher Carolyn Stone of Austin College had a strong week for the 'Roos, going 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate and driving in three runs as AC fell to ETBU and the University of Dallas. Junior shortstop Jamie Williams of Trinity hit .462 (6-13) last weekend, as the the Tigers finished 1-3 at the Easton Classic in Tyler, Texas. Williams had three doubles among her six hits, scoring two runs and driving in two more. For the season, Williams is leading the team with a batting average of .412 (7-17), and is tied for the team lead with three doubles. Last season, she finished fourth on the team with a .325 batting average, but led the team with school record-tying 34 runs. Millsaps did not nominate anyone for the award and Centre, Hendrix, Rhodes and Sewanee did not play.
