DEPAUW’S BARTLETT; TRINITY’S MULVEY HEADLINE 2006 ALL-SCAC SOFTBALL TEAM

SUWANEE, Ga. – In exclusive 2006 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the league’s head coaches, Carolyn Bartlett of DePauw University was selected the conference’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Erin Mulvey of Trinity University was tabbed as Pitcher-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season. In that same balloting, Trinity head coach Roland Rodriguez was voted SCAC Coach-of-the-Year.

Bartlett, a first-year outfielder from Glen Ellyn, Ill., is the first freshman to ever win the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year award. She led the league with a school-record .449 batting average this season and was also tops in the conference in on-base percentage (.479), total bases (86) and hits (61). Bartlett finished in the top 10 in the league in slugging percentage (.632 – third), runs scored (43 – third), runs batted in (44 – third), triples (4 – tied for fifth) and home runs (3 – tied for
eighth). Her runs scored total as well as her runs batted in total were also both new single-season school records. Bartlett was named to the 2006 SCAC all-tournament team in leading the Tigers to a second-place finish and recently earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Central Region First Team.

Mulvey, a junior right-hander from Round Rock, Texas, continued to dominant the league in earning her second consecutive SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year honor. Just as she did a year ago, Mulvey led the league in earned run average (1.33), opponent’s batting average (.167) and strikeouts (147). In two seasons in the circle for the Tigers, she has a 30-9 overall record (.769) – the best career winning percentage in league history among all pitchers with at least 30 decisions. Mulvey also finished in the top six in the conference in innings pitched (126.0 – fifth), wins (12 – tied for fourth), saves (2 – second) and appearances (22 – sixth).
She posted a 2-0 mark at the 2006 SCAC championships to earn all-tournament honors and lead the Tigers to their second consecutive league title. Mulvey was the league’s Pitcher-of-the-Week three times during the 2006 season and recently earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-West Region First Team.

Trinity skipper Roland Rodriguez, who has been named SCAC Coach-of-the-Year a record four times, led the Tigers’ to their sixth title in eight years and fourth since he took over the reigns in 2001. Rodriguez sports a 156-97 overall mark (.617) in his six years as the head man in San Antonio and has more wins than any other active coach in SCAC softball history. Trinity made its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance last weekend at the Redlands Region and was eliminated by eventual region champion Linfield.
