DEPAUW’S GILL; TRINITY’S MULVEY HEADLINE
2007 ALL-SCAC SOFTBALL TEAM

SUWANEE, Ga. – In exclusive 2007 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the league’s head coaches, Rachel Gill of DePauw University was selected the conference’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Erin Mulvey of Trinity University was tabbed as Pitcher-of-the-Year for the third consecutive season. In that same balloting, Centre College head coach Wendie Austin-Robinson and DePauw head coach Bonnie Skrenta were voted SCAC Co-Coaches-of-the-Year.

Gill, a sophomore catcher from St. Louis, Mo., is the second straight DePauw student-athlete to be named the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year – following teammate Carolyn Bartlett. She leads the league with a school-record .482 batting average this season and is also tops in the conference in slugging percentage (.737), on-base percentage (.523), total bases (101), hits (66), doubles (13) and runs driven in (51). Gill is also ranked in the top five in the league in runs scored (46 – second), triples (5 – tied for third) and home runs (4 – tied for fifth). She has also established new single-season school records this year for hits, runs scored, total bases and doubles. Gill was a 2007 SCAC all-Tournament selection and recently earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Central Region First Team. She and her teammates just advanced to the NCAA Division III Softball Finals for the first time in program history with four straight victories at the NCAA Central Regional where Gill was named to the all-tournament team.

Mulvey, a senior right-hander from Round Rock, Texas, continued to dominant the league in earning her third consecutive SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year honor. Mulvey led the league in opponent’s batting average (.150) and strikeouts (162) and finished second in earned run average (1.21) and wins (17). In three seasons in the circle for the Tigers, she posted a 47-14 overall record (.770) – the best career winning percentage in league history among all pitchers with at least 30 decisions. Mulvey ends her career as the SCAC all-time leader in strikeouts (463) and ranks fourth all-time for wins (47) and second for ERA (1.19). She posted a 3-0 mark and allowed no earned runs in 21.0 innings pitched at the 2007 SCAC championships to earn all-tournament honors and led the Tigers to their third consecutive league title. Mulvey recently earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-West Region First Team as well as a spot on the NCAA West Regional all-tournament team.

Centre head coach Wendie Austin-Robinson led the Colonels to a school record 23 wins this season which concluded with a trip to the SCAC title game. When Austin-Robinson took over the Centre softball program in 2001, the team had just 13 players on the roster and had won just 10 games the last two seasons combined. Since then, Centre has gone 109-138 (.441) and has averaged almost 16 wins a season. Austin-Robinson was also SCAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2005.

The DePauw Tigers won a school-record 32 games during the regular season for head coach Bonnie Skrenta and earned the school’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. In her five years at the helm of the program, DePauw has gone 106-80-1 (.570), including 77-15 (.837) the last two seasons. In this historic season for the Tigers, Skrenta has led the team to the NCAA Softball Elite Eight – the deepest run by any SCAC team in the national tournament. This is the first SCAC Coach-of-the-Year honor for Skrenta and the DePauw softball program.
