SCAC ANNOUNCES 2007 ALL-TOURNAMENT SOFTBALL TEAM

SAN ANTONIO, Texas Led by two-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year Erin Mulvey, Trinity University won its third consecutive softball title and seventh overall this past weekend at the 2007 Spring Sports Festival.

The Texas Tigers ran the table at this year’s tournament, winning three straight games concluding with a 2-0 victory over Centre College in the championship contest. The tournament was played on Trinity’s home field for the first time since 1999 – the first year of the SCAC Softball Championships.

Mulvey was an unanimous selection to the squad for the third consecutive year. She was the winning pitcher in all three Trinity wins this weekend and did not allow a single run – earned or unearned – in her 21.0 innings in the circle. The senior from Round Rock, Texas,
pitched a one-hit shutout in the tournament finale, striking out 13 hitters. She finished just one strikeout short of her own tournament record of 32 punch-outs in a single championship (2005). Mulvey finishes her illustrious career at 8-0 with 77 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA in 61.0 innings of SCAC tournament action.

Mulvey is the only repeat member of the team from a year ago, but Centre’s Maggie Blackburn and Hendrix College’s Kim Tallent both made the team in 2005.

Another noteworthy individual effort came from Millsaps College’s Jennifer McKinley who tied a SCAC tournament single-game record with two home runs in Saturday’s 12-11 loss to Hendrix.

Centre led the way with four selections to the 2007 SCAC All-Tournament Team while Trinity had three honorees. DePauw University and Millsaps both had two selections and Hendrix had one.
