DePauw Men; Centre Women voted SCAC Swimming Staffs of the Year

DEPAUW MEN; CENTRE WOMEN VOTED SCAC SWIMMING STAFFS-OF-THE-YEAR

SUWANEE, Ga. – DePauw University head men’s swimming coach Adam Cohen and his staff were voted 2007 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming & Diving Staff-of-the-Year, while Centre College head swimming coach Dean Brownley and his staff were voted the 2007 SCAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Staff-of-the-Year in exclusive voting by the league’s head coaches.

Swimming just 30 miles from campus at Crawfordsville High School, DePauw established a conference record with 1,055 points and, in turn, claimed the largest margin of victory in winning its third straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. Trinity University finished second with 666 points followed by Centre with 639, Sewanee-University of the South with 597 and Colorado College with 576.

Adam Cohen and his staff received 32 points in the polling process for Men’s Staff-of-the-Year, followed closely by Dean Brownley and the Centre staff with 28 points. Anne Goodman James and the Colorado College staff came in third in the voting with seven points.

The Centre women posted their best finish in the nine-year history championships, placing third with a program-best 633.5 points. The Colonels trailed only champion Trinity (934.5 points) and second-place DePauw (774.5 points) and had two individuals win events (50 free and 100 butterfly) for the first time ever.

In the Women’s Staff-of-the-Year voting, Dean Brownley and staff received 29 points, followed by John Ryan and the Trinity staff, who received 17 points in the selection process. Mary Bretscher and the DePauw staff finished third with 16 points.

Coaches were asked to vote for three staffs, with their first selection receiving five points, second choice receiving three points and the third receiving one point.
