Southwestern Tennis Coach Nelson Passes Away at 82

Charles Nelson, former Southwestern
University tennis coach, passed away on Tuesday (Jun. 17). A
visitation was held on Thursday (Jun. 19) at The Gabriel's
Funeral Chapel and a mass of Christian burial will take place
Friday (Jun. 20) at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church.

Announces All-Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Teams
Sewanee's Carvalho; Trinity's Gaines named Players-of-the-Year
SUWANEE,
Ga. -
In exclusive voting by the head coaches in the
league, Gab Carvalho of Sewanee-University of the South and
Oliver Gaines of Trinity University have been selected the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tennis
Players-of-the-Year. In that same balloting,
DePauw University swept the Coach-of-the-Year awards as Scott
Riggle was voted Women’s COTY and Tom Cath was recognized as
Men’s COTY.

2008 All-Tournament Men's Tennis Team
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -
The 19th-ranked DePauw
University Tigers edged top-ranked Trinity University, 5-4,
and captured their second straight Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference title. With the win, DePauw improved to
18-6 on the season and earned the conference's automatic
qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship.

Stevens Institute to Advance to Regional Final

DePauw and Trinity named to 41-team NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament field
DePauw University
received the SCAC's automatic bid and conference runner-up Trinity
University was selected as one of seven at-large teams to
compete in the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis
Championships.
The teams will play a
single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third
rounds played at non-predetermined regional sites.

Trinity moves
to top spot in National Poll

SKILLMAN, N.J. -
Trinity
University men’s
tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the nation by the latest
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III
poll. It is the first time the Tigers have held the top spot
since capturing the 2000 national championship. The only other
SCAC school to be ranked, DePauw University is 19th in this
week's poll.

Birmingham-Southern; Coach Newman gets 300th Victory

The Trinity University Tigers
men’s and women’s tennis teams beat the Birmingham-Southern
College Panthers in dual matches Wednesday at Delavan Tennis
Stadium. Head Coach Butch Newman earned his 300th career men’s
victory and now stands at 300-206.

Trinity eighth;
DePauw 12th in ITA National Rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. - Trinity University slipped to eighth
and DePauw dropped two places to 12th in this week's ITA
National Top 30 rankings. Rhodes and Sewanee, who were ranked
in the initial 2008 spring poll, dropped from the rankings
this week.

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Led by Trinity University in seventh,
the SCAC has four men's teams ranked in the ITA National Top
30 Poll - the first rankings of the 2008 spring season.
