DEPAUW
KNOCKS OFF TOP-RANKED TRINITY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SCAC TITLE
GREENCASTLE, Ind.
–
The 19th-ranked DePauw University Tigers edged
top-ranked Trinity University, 5-4, and captured their second straight
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title. With the win, DePauw
improved to 18-6 on the season and earned the conference's automatic
qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship.
Trinity took a 2-1 lead after
winning first and third doubles, but the Indiana Tigers picked up straight
set wins at third through sixth singles for the win. Bryan Heck, Scott
Sandager, Scott Sauer and Evan Hunter, who picked up those wins, all were
named to the 2008 SCAC All-Tournament Team. Heck and Sandager also made
the team as an undefeated team at No. 2 Doubles. It is the third
consecutive year that Heck has made the all-tourney team as both a singles
and doubles player.
Sandager was part of the 2007 all-tourney team as Heck's partner at No. 3
Doubles.
James Furr and Crisanto Ramirez of Trinity, who made this year's team both
as individuals (No. 2 and No. 5 singles respectively) and for their work
at No. 3 doubles, are repeat honorees from a year ago when they both made
the all-tourney singles team.
The doubles team of Wes Hill and Murphey Parker of Millsaps College are
the first team to go 4-0 at a SCAC championship since Coyle and Hoffman of
Centre College accomplished the feat at the 2002 championships.

*Any player (or doubles team) that goes
through the conference tournament undefeated is named to the
all-tournament team automatically, but a player (or doubles team)
must compete in at least two matches at the tournament to be
considered. If no one player or team goes undefeated using the above
criteria, then the next best record at that position will be named
to the all-tournament team. |
