SCAC announces Spring Coaches-of-the-Year
SUWANEE, Ga. - After exclusive voting by head coaches of each sport, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its 2004 Coaches-of-the-Year for men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, softball and baseball. Complete Release

Trinity's Schumann wins High Jump National Championship
DePauw's Flory All-America in 3,000 meter steeplechase; Rhodes' Brandewiede All-America in 1,500 meters
DECATUR, Ill. –
Trinity University sophomore Christyn Schumann won the women’s high jump title Friday at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships contested at Millikin (Ill.) University. Championships website

As for other SCAC athletes, DePauw's Simon Flory finished eighth in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase to earn All-America honors.

Rhodes' Marie Brandewiede earned All-American honors in the 1500 meter run for the third time in her career by finishing seventh. Story on Rhodes website

Schumann jumped a Division III season-best and school record 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches) - defeating runner-up Jillian Crandall of Wisconsin-River Falls who jumped 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches).

Schumann is Trinity’s first NCAA Division III individual champion, and the second SCAC individual to win an individual outdoor track championship. Sewanee's Heather Stone won the women's 1,500 meters title in 2000.

Trinity repeats as SCAC Women's Track Champions

AT
LANTA, Ga. -- Trinity University ran away with the 2004 SCAC Women's Track & Field Championship Saturday afternoon at Georgia Tech. The Tigers scored 229 points and defeated second-place DePauw University by 41 points (229-188). Trinity's margin was identical to last year's 228-187 victory - also over DePauw.

Brandewiede of Rhodes runs nation's top 1,500 time
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -
Competing on Friday at the Sea Ray Relays, Marie Brandewiede of Rhodes College ran 4:34.34 for 1,500 meters - qualifying for the Division III National Championship meet May 27-29 at Decatur, Ill.

Brandewiede's time currently ranks her #1 in the nation among Division III athletes.

Last month, Brandewiede ran 4:40 for 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals, finishing fourth.

Trinity's Schumann bests record high jump
HOUSTON, Texas
- Trinity sophomore Christyn Schumann won the women’s high jump event last Saturday at Rice University’s Bayou Classic with a school-record leap of 5 feet, 8 inches (1.73 meters).

Schumann bested her school record of 5 feet, 7 inches set March 6 at the Trinity University Invitational. She also received automatic qualifying to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Schumann is the first female student-athlete at Trinity to qualify for nationals. The national event will be held May 27-29 at Decatur, Ill.

- Trinity University sophomore Christyn Schumann qualified for the high jump event at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 27-29 in Decatur, Ill.). Schumann bested her school record with a jump of 5 feet, 7 inches last Saturday at the Trinity University Track and Field Invitational. Her jump currently leads the nation.
