SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th)

AVERY SHEPPARD OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Cuero, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.

Sheppard placed fifth overall in the 110 hurdles at the Texas Twilight meet hosted by the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday April 19.

His time of 15.17 broke his own Southwestern University record.

Sheppard was the first non-D-I athlete to cross the finish line in the 110 hurdles.

SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th)

ANDREW MARYOTT OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year from East Dennis, Mass., has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.

Maryott improved his own personal best and established a new Rhodes College school record in the hammer throw at the Rhodes Quad Meet on Saturday. 

Maryott’s throw of 43.27m is at the top of the conference list and nearly three meters ahead of the next competitor. 


WEEK 4

SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th)

IAN TURNER OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.

Turner ran two big personal best times in the 1500 meters (4:08.02) and the 3000 meters (9:01.81) in windy and cold conditions at the Tennessee State Unviversity Boston - Moon Classic. 

In a field of mostly Division I runners, Turner led the entire 3k race until the last lap to finish second.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Chris Norris of Southwestern,
running at the ASU David Noble Relays and competing against a mix of NCAA D-II, D-III and NAIA schools, won the 200m dash posting a time of 22.07. Norris' time broke the SU record for this event. This performance places Norris at the top of the SCAC performance list in the 200m dash. He also posted the fifth-fastest time in the qualifying rounds of the 200 having run 22.40 earlier in the afternoon. Additionally Norris ran the fastest leg on the Southwestern University 4x400m relay team that placed sixth and posted a season-best time of 3:22.17. SU's 4x400m relay team's performance also top's the SCAC performance list to date. Norris also ran a leg on the SU 4x100m relay team that placed fifth overall with a time of 43.16.

SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th)

CHRIS BAER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Shiner, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.

Baer threw a new personal record and school record of 204' 2" (62.24) in the javelin. He won the event at the David Noble Relays and is currently ranked second in the NCAA.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Tyler Cooney of Sewanee cleared 14' in windy and cold conditions at the Tennessee State University Boston-Moon Classic to set an outdoor season best and finished second to a division one athlete from Belmont. Junior Micah Salinas of Southwestern, triple jumping for the first time since high school at the ASU David Noble Relays (a track meet with a mix of NCAA D-II, III and NAIA schools), placed third overall with a jump of 12.77m / 41'10-3/4". This jump places him third on the SCAC performance list to date.


WEEK 3

SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th)

CHASS ARMSTRONG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Boerne, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.

Armstrong
ran an incredible 1,500 meter personal best and new school record of 3:54.83 at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational this weekend. His mark is also an NCAA provisional mark and currently ranks him third in the nation.

Armstrong was the first collegiate runner (2nd overall) in a field of 68 1,500 meter runners.

SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th)

JERRY MALDONADO OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a sophomore from Rockwall, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.

Maldonado cleared 2.05 meters (6 feet 8.75 inches) in the high jump to win Harding's Bison Invitational. 

The mark is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships and places Maldonado fourth on the national list. He is first on the conference performance list.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Charles Mercy of Centre finished in first place in the men's javelin throw this past weekend at the very competitive DePauw Invitational. Mercy's throw of 165' 2" was 15 feet better than his personal best throw. First-year Andrew Maryott of Rhodes placed third overall in both the discus and hammer throws at Ohio Wesleyan’s Marv Frye Invitational. He threw 43.72m (143’5”) in the discus and 41.83m (137’3”) in the hammer which place him at the top of the conference performance list and are both personal bests.


WEEK 2

SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th)

ZACH BRUSH OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29.

Brush
broke the Trinity school record in the 800 meter run at the Rice Bayou Classic this weekend by running 1:54.11.

He broke the record held by Matt Kovacs from 2003 of 1:54.49.

Brush also ran his second 1500 meter race ever and hit a 4:02.27.

The first-year runner finished up the day by anchoring the Tigers' 4 x 400 relay team.

SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th)

CHRIS BAER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Shiner, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29.

Baer
broke the school record and qualified provisionally for the NCAA’s in the javelin by throwing 192’4” (58.62) at the Rice Bayou Classic.

The old school record was held by Kels Farmer at 191’03 and had stood since 1999.


WEEK 1

SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Saturday, March 1st through Saturday, March 22nd)

CHRIS NORRIS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.

Norris
opened his 2008 season with a win and provisional qualifier for NCAA D-III nationals in the 100 meter dash with a finishing time of 10.78.

Competing in four outdoor meets to date, Norris has won one individual track event, placed second in one individual track event, and third in one individual rack event.
His best times in the 100 and 200 this season are 10.78 and 22.20 respectively.

Norris also helped the Southwestern University 4x100m relay team lower the SU record in this event twice this outdoor season.

This past weekend (3/22/08) at the Baylor University Dr. Pepper Invitational, he placed second in the 100, and fourth in the 200.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Todd Wildman of Trinity opened the outdoor season at the UTSA Relays breaking his own school record and qualifying provisionally for NCAAs in two events - the 110-meter hurdles (14.73) and the high jump (2.02). Both marks are new TU records. Senior Ian Turner of Sewanee opened the outdoor track and field season with a personal best in the 5k of 15:51 at the Emory Invitational. His time is 42 seconds better than his previous best time.

SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Saturday, March 1st through Saturday, March 22nd)

TODD WILDMAN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Dallas, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.

Wildman
high jumped to a new school record and NCAA provisional mark of 2.02 meters at the USTA Relays on March 14.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Chris Norris of Southwestern
opened his 2008 season with a win in the long jump at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. Competing in four outdoor meets to date, Norris has won one individual field event, placed second (first collegiate athlete) in one individual field event, and third in two individual field events. This past weekend (3/22/08) at the Baylor University Dr. Pepper Invitational, he placed third in the long jump. Norris' best outdoor jump to date is 6.78 meters.
