SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 18th through Saturday, April 19th)

CYBIL COVIC OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore from Cordova, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 18 through Saturday, April 19.

Covic completed a successful two day double running season bests in both the 1500m and 800m runs.

Covic began the weekend by competing at the Vanderbilt Invite where she established a new personal best of 4:48.97 in the 1500m placing in the top half of an otherwise entirely Division I, 42-person field. This performance ranks her third on the SCAC list. 

The next day, Covic won the 800m at the Rhodes Quad Meet with a time of 2:23.81, a season best, and good for sixth on the SCAC list. 


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Tami Warner of Southwestern won her section of the 800 at the Texas Twilight meet hosted by the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday April 19. Warner's time of 2:23.52 broke the Southwestern University record  and was good  enough for 10th place in the meet. She was the first non-D-I athlete to finish in the women's 800m run.

SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 18th through Saturday, April 19th)

LEISHA MEADE OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a sophomore from Sevierville, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 18 through Saturday, April 19.

Meade
set personal best throws in the hammer throw, shot put and discus throw at the Rhodes Quad meet in Memphis. She placed second in the hammer and third in the discus and shot put.


WEEK 4

SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 11th through Saturday, April 12th)

KRISTIN LAHAIE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Cypruss, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 11 through Saturday, April 12.

Lahaie won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.58 at the ASU David Noble Relays competing against a mix of NCAA D-II, III and NAIA schools.

Lahaie also ran a personal-best of 5:07.91 in the 1500 meter run. This is the second win of her life - with both wins coming during the 2008 outdoor track and field season.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year LaToyia Slay of Sewanee ran two personal best times in the 100m (13.21) and 200m (27.52) in cold conditions at the Tennessee State University Boston - Moon Classic. In a mostly Division I field, Slay finished second among non-division one runners.

SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week

JANE JOHNSON OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a senior from Greenville, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 11 through Saturday, April 12.

Johnson
set a season best and conference-leading throw (112' 8") in the javelin to finish third behind two division one athletes at the Tennessee State University Boston - Moon Classic.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Jocelyn Stokes of Trinity
threw the hammer for the first time ever at the David Noble Relays. She placed fourth overall in 104'1" which ranks her second on the SCAC performance list.


WEEK 3

SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Friday, April 4th through Saturday, April 5th)

LAUREN REICH OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior from Mesa, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday, April 4 through Saturday, April 5.

Reich finished second in the 1500m at the DePauw Invitational with a provisional qualifying time of 4:38.90. Her time ranks second all-time at DePauw.

Reich was also third in the 800m with a time of 2:21.93.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Caitlin McGeehan of Hendrix
ran to two school records this weekend at Harding's Bison Invitational. In the 400m, McGeehan bettered her own school record of 59.44, running 58.58. Less than an hour later, McGeehan came back with a 25.73 wind legal 200m effort.  This bettered the old school record by .99 seconds. Both marks are good for second on the SCAC performance list. The 400m time is just 1.08 seconds over the provisional standard, the 200m time just .41 seconds over the standard. First-year Sandy Henin of Rhodes ran 2:17.87 in the 800m to place fourth at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. Henin’s time is a near three second improvement from her previous career best and ranks her at the top of the SCAC by two seconds. Henin also led off the 4x400m relay with split that was clocked between 59.8 and 60.1 (rounded up hand time).

WEEK 2

SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Thursday, March 27th through Saturday, March 29th)

LAURA BROEDERDORF OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a junior from Mountain Home, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Thursday, March 27 through Saturday, March 29.

Broederdorf
ran 38:10.2 (hand timed) to win the 10,000m at the Rhodes Invitational over the weekend. Alone the entire way, victory was never in doubt, as Broederdorf lapped second place several times en route to a 4 minute victory.  

The effort was just 18 seconds off her school record from 2006, only 30 from a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships, and is at the top of the outdoor performance list.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year runner Tami Warner of Southwestern, running her first 1,500m of the season, posted a personal-best of 5:01.37 at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic. Warner also ran a season-best of 2:25.6 in the 800. Nineteen schools including NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA, club teams as well as open athletes competed at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic.

SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Thursday, March 27th through Saturday, March 29th)

BEKKA RUSS OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior from Franklin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Thursday, March 27 through Saturday, March 29.

Russ
won the heptathlon at the Rhodes Multi-Event Competition held March 27-28, as she bested six other competitors. 

Russ totaled 4,017 points in her second ever heptathlon competition, and defeated the all-America seventh place finisher from the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 

Russ' point total is 83 points from the NCAA provisional mark of 4,100 points and her throw in the javelin of 32.58m (106’11") moved her to second place on the conference performance list. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior LaToya Alexander of Southwestern had her best throw of the season, 9.81 meters in the shot put at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic. Nineteen schools including NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA and club teams as well as open athletes competed at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic.


WEEK 1

SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week
(For meets run Saturday, March 1st through Saturday, March 22nd)

EMILY LOEFFLER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.

Loeffler
broke her own school record in the steeplechase set last May by running a 10:53.90 in the first outdoor steeple of the year at Texas State University. She ran the entire race by herself with over a minute lead from her only chasers, her teammates.

This marks the fifth school record Loeffler owns for Trinity and she currently ranks her second in the nation in this event.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Kristin Forbes of Rhodes won the 400 meters (55.91) and placed second  (top DIII) in the 200 meters (24.61) at Rhodes Open on March 22. Forbes’ marks are new school records and both are NCAA provisional marks. Her 400m time is .01 from an automatic qualifying mark, while the 200 time is .04 from the automatic. Both marks currently rank her at the top of Division III. Junior Kristin Lahaie of Southwestern, racing at the Tarleton Relays in her first 1500 meter event of the season, won the tactical race with a personal-best time of 5:12.99. She was racing against NCAA D-II, and D-III schools.

SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week

KIM TRYON OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore from Gulf Breeze, Fla., has been selected the SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.

Tryon
vaulted 3.40m (11’1.75”) at the Rhodes Open to place fourth overall and second among Division III athletes. 

Her vault established a new Rhodes' school record and places her over a foot ahead of the next competitor on the conference performance list. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Jocelyn Stokes of Trinity established a new school record in the disc with a throw of 37.74 meters (123’10”) which places her more than 20’ ahead of her closest competitor on the conference performance list.
