wins 2005-06 President's Trophy
Tigers wrap up all-sports title at
Spring Sports Festival

SUWANEE, Ga.
- With outright or shared championships in 10
of 18 conference sports and second place finishes in six others, DePauw
University has won the 2005-06 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
President's Trophy.
DePauw finished with 835 points - the second-largest total in the history
of the award - while Trinity was second with 765.
Wrapping up its eighth season of SCAC competition, DePauw previously won
the trophy in 2000-01.
The Indiana Tigers won or shared conference titles in men's and women's
basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, women's golf,
women's soccer, men's swimming and diving, women's tennis and men's track
and field.
DePauw teams were second in men's golf, softball, men's soccer, men's
tennis, women's swimming and diving and women's track and field. The
baseball team placed third and the volleyball squad was fourth.
Trinity won spring titles in softball, men's tennis and men's track and
field and shared titles in baseball and women's tennis.
The TU Tigers also won championships in
men's soccer and women's swimming and diving and shared titles in football (with DePauw) and volleyball
(with Southwestern University). Trinity has won the last four SCAC
all-sports trophies.
In other spring sports championships, Millsaps College shared the baseball
title with Trinity and Oglethorpe University won the men's golf title for
the sixth time in nine years.
Of the league's 18 President Trophy sports, DePauw and Trinity won or
shared 17 of them.
A bell, donated by the Norfolk and Western Railroad, was adopted as the
conference's President's Trophy and serves as the symbol for the
conference. This bell is displayed for one year on the campus of the
school with the combined men's and women's athletics program that
accumulates the highest number of points towards the all-sports trophy.
As for the rest of the President's Trophy standings, following DePauw and
Trinity was Rhodes College with 577.5 points. Centre College finished
fourth with 515 points and Sewanee: The University of the South was fifth
with 515 points.
Rounding out the standings was Southwestern University at sixth with 415 points, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in seventh with
397.5
points and Hendrix College and Oglethorpe University tied for eighth with
290 points each. Millsaps College finished 10th at 242.5 points.
