 Past Trophy Winners

The symbol of conference supremacy is the 300-pound railroad bell which was donated to the SCAC by the Norfolk and Western Railroad. This bell, the "President's Trophy", is a rotating award and goes to the school with the best overall sports record for the year. Current standings are listed below:

LUCKY SEVEN FOR THE TIGERS;
TRINITY UNIVERSITY WINS 2000 PRESIDENT'S TROPHY

For the second consecutive year, the race for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) President's Trophy came down to a battle of the Tigers - DePauw University and Trinity University. Last season, DePauw held the lead heading into the Spring Sports Festival only to see Trinity rally with six team championships on the final day to take the Trophy. This year at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., the battle wasn't quite as climatic as Trinity clinched its seventh-consecutive all-sports title with Sunday's softball championship and added titles in men's and women's tennis later in the day to complete the title run.

Trinity finished the academic year with eight of the conference's 18 championships. In addition to those championships won this past weekend, the Tigers claimed conference titles in men's soccer, football, men's basketball, volleyball and women's swimming. DePauw won championships in men's swimming, women's soccer, and men's and women's track and field. Rhodes College won championships in men's and women's cross country and women's golf. Southwestern University claimed the baseball title and Oglethorpe University won the men's golf championship. DePauw and Hendrix College shared the women's basketball crown.

By winning the all-sports championship, Trinity retains the "President's Trophy," a 300-pound railroad bell donated to the conference by the Norfolk and Western Railroad. The trophy is awarded annually to the school with the best overall sports record. Trinity is now just three all-sports championships behind the all-time CAC/SCAC record of 10 held by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Engineers won back-to-back championships in 1974-75 and 1975-76, three in a row from 1980-81 - 1982-83 and five consecutive times from 1984-85 - 1988-89. No one has won more consecutive titles than the Tigers and their current streak of seven.
