WEEK 9

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Oct. 22nd through Sunday, Oct. 28th)

AUDRA GENTRY OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore outside hitter from Albuquerque, N.M., has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 22 through Sunday, October 28.

Gentry
led the Pirates to a perfect 5-0 week, including wins over three different scholarship programs. 

Gentry hit .287 for the week - almost a full .100 points higher than her season average - with 71 kills (3.94 per game) in 181 attempts.

She had 11 kills in 25 attempts for a .320 attack percentage in SU's 3-0 win over NCAA Division II Texas A&M International.

Over the next three matches, Gentry led the team in kills as she recorded 17 in the win against Provisional NCAA Division I Houston Baptist. The following match was a dominating effort over UT-Tyler, with 18 kills and just two errors in 35 attempts. She also had 11 digs against the Patriots.

The final match of the weekend as a 3-1 victory over NAIA Texas Wesleyan with Gentry notching 18 more kills in the winning effort.

For the season, Gentry is 10th in the SCAC in kills per game at 3.18.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior right side Kaitlin Listol of Austin College led the 12th-ranked ‘Roos to a 3-1 record at the Southwestern Invitational over the weekend, with the only loss coming against Division I provisional school Houston Baptist. Listol averaged 5.25 kills per game with a hitting percentage of .437 over the weekend and also averaged 4.08 digs per game. She reached 20 kills in all three matches in which she played, including 22 against Houston Baptist, and had 25 digs against Texas Wesleyan. Sophomore middle blocker Aly Hazelwood of Trinity led the team in hitting percentage and blocks this past weekend, as the Tigers finished 3-1 at the Trinity National Invitational. Hazelwood hit a blistering .424 for the tournament, recording 30 kills and just two errors in 66 total attacks. She also was on fire at the net defensively, recording 22 overall blocks for an average of 1.69 per game. She hit over .600 against Chapman on Saturday, as well as hitting .357 against NAIA UT-Brownsville on Friday night. She recorded at least five blocks in each of the final three matches of the weekend. For the season, Hazelwood is third on the team with a .303 hitting percentage and second in 127 total blocks (1.30/game). She leads the team with 120 block assists this season, and is fourth on the team with 162 total kills. Senior middle hitter Kim Hamer of DePauw hit .419 with 31 kills and just five errors on 62 total attacks as the Tigers went 1-1 in matches last week. Hamer averaged 4.43 kills, 0.57 service aces and 1.14 blocks per game in the double-header.
First-year middle blocker Stephanie Parazak of Rhodes had an outstanding weekend for the Lynx as they went 2-1 at the Maryville Fall Classic. On the weekend, Parazak had 29 kills in nine games averaging 3.22 kills per contest. She only had five errors on 48 attempts, hitting .500 for the weekend. Parazak added five service aces, 15 digs and seven blocks. First-year defensive specialist Sarah Gawor of Hendrix had 16 kills on 16 attempts in a 3-0 sweep of Rust College on Tuesday. First-year middle blocker Emily Perkins of Colorado College had a season-high 24 kills and completed her 17th double-double of the year with 13 kills to lead Colorado College to a come-from-behind victory over Division II Colorado Christian University. She leads the team with 344 kills and needs only 47 to break Anna Clithero's freshman record of 390. Perkins finished the match with a .383 hitting percentage, the eighth time this season she has hit .350 or better. She hit .299 against Division II opponents this season. Perkins leads CC in kills (344) and blocks (28 block solos, 78 block assists and 106 total blocks), and is second in hitting percentage (.279), digs (325) and service aces (43). Centre, Millsaps and Oglethorpe did not nominate anyone for the award, and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 8

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Oct. 15th through Sunday, Oct. 21st)

SARAH BURGER OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a senior middle hitter from Goshen, Ky., and KIM HAMER OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a senior middle hitter from Fishers, Ind., have been named SCAC Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 15 through Sunday, October 21.

Burger
helped lead the Colonels to a 4-1 record this past week, including a 3-1 mark at the SCAC Central/East Divisional #2. Burger recorded 78 kills over the 15 games she played (5.2 per game) with only 17 errors on 132 attempts for a .462 hitting efficiency. She also had 17 blocks (1.13 per game), three assists and 11 digs.

Over the weekend, Burger totaled the 2,000th kill of her career - making her just the third player in SCAC history to hit that milestone. With 2,015 career kills, she trails only Janie Hodgkinson of DePauw (1998-2001) in the SCAC record books. Hodgkinson finished her career with 2,214 kills.

For the season, Burger is hitting .341 (fourth in the SCAC) with 443 kills (second in the SCAC) and 101 blocks (eighth in the SCAC).

Hamer hit .424 with 41 kills and just five errors in 85 total attacks at the SCAC Central/East Divisional #2. The senior middle hitter led her team to a 3-1 mark at the Divisional - which catapulted the Tigers to a No. 5 seed at the upcoming SCAC Volleyball Tournament.

Hamer averaged 4.10 kills and 1.40 blocks per game and also had two service aces and six digs.

Hamer is the league's all-time leader in career blocks per game (1.45) and her 513 total blocks is currently seventh on the SCAC all-time list.

For the season, Hamer is hitting .343 (third in the SCAC) with 335 kills (tied for fourth in the SCAC) and a league-leading 141 blocks.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year outside hitter Alexis Edwards of Trinity
led the No. 3 Tigers to a pair of non-conference wins last week, pushing the team’s win streak to 25 consecutive matches. Edwards finished with 20 total kills in four games, averaging 5.00 per game for the week. She also recorded just four errors in 34 attempts, posting an outstanding .471 hitting percentage. Edwards also had three service aces and 12 digs last week. For the season, Edwards is averaging 1.17 kills per game and is hitting .309 in 47 total games played. She has tallied 21 aces and 116 digs on the year.
Junior outside hitter Jessica Rose of Austin College helped to extend the team's win streak to a program record 21 victories as the ‘Roos went 6-0 in the week, including a five match sweep of the Austin College Invitational in which the team did not lose a single game. Rose averaged 3.31 kills per game with a hitting percentage of .323 and had a team-best nine aces during the week, and also averaged 4.25 digs per game. Rose tallied at least 10 kills in four of the five matches in which she played with a high of 15 against UT-Dallas, and had a high of 17 digs against Hardin-Simmons. Junior middle blocker Ally Squires of Rhodes led the Lynx to a 3-2 record this past week, including a 2-2 mark at the SCAC Central/East Divisional #2 at DePauw. In the 12 games she played this week, Squires had 30 kills and hit .311 on the week. She also had six service aces, 19 digs and eight blocks. Senior outside hitter Katy Lukaszewski of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 4-1 record for the week with a mid-week match at provisional NCAA Division I Houston Baptist and at the Austin College Invitational. She led the offense with 55 kills for an average of 2.89 per game. She also totaled 55 digs for the week, including a team-high 20 in the Pirates’ win over UT-Dallas. In addition, the senior had seven total blocks and six service aces. First-year libero Erica Cook of Millsaps added to her team-leading total of 297 digs this past week in a 4-3 effort for the Majors, picking up a game-high 27 digs in a 3-1 win over Dillard University to go along with 100 in seven matches. Cook played in 20 of 22 games, recording just nine errors in 133 receiving attempts and three errors in 86 service attempts. She also had five service aces and four set assists on the week. First-year outside hitter Becca Clancy of Hendrix led the Warriors with 16 kills and hit .429 in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Philander Smith. Colorado College, Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 7

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Oct. 8th through Sunday, Oct. 14th)

SARA BUROS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior right side from Austin, Texas, and JESSICA PHILLIPS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore setter from Irving, Texas, have been named SCAC Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 8 through Sunday, October 14.

Buros led the fourth-ranked Tigers to a 5-0 record last week, hitting an impressive .387 and averaging better than three kills and three digs per game.

Buros committed just one error among 62 total attacks, collecting 25 kills for a team-high 3.12 kills per game. She was also second on the team with 30 digs and a 3.75 dig per game average this week.

In the weekend finale against Colorado College, Buros tallied a team-high 18 kills to go with 14 assists, committing zero errors in 40 attacks to give her a .450 hitting percentage. It was the eighth double-double of the year for Buros.

For the season, Buros is second on the team with 210 kills (2.56 per game) and a hitting percentage of .282 in 556 total attacks. She is also second on the team with 44 service aces and with 313 digs this season, averaging 3.82 per game.

Phillips put together one of the best weekends of her career as 14th-ranked Austin College swept DePauw, Centre, Sewanee, and Southwestern at the SCAC East/West Divisional #2 at Trinity.

Phillips averaged 14.73 assists per game with a high of 74 against Southwestern - the third highest total in Austin College program history. She also
had six service aces and averaged 2.64 digs per game, and added seven blocks.

For the season, Phillips leads the SCAC in assists with 1,071 (13.56 per game). She is on pace to set the new SCAC single-season assists per game mark - currently held by Ashley Farrimond of Trinity who averaged 13.01 per game in 2002.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle hitter Adrienne Cobb of DePauw
finished the weekend with a .356 hitting percentage (41 kills, 10 errors, 87 total attempts) and averaged 3.15 kills per game as the Tigers finished 2-2 at the SCAC East/West Division #2, including a victory over 23rd-ranked Southwestern. Cobb also had 15 blocks - averaging 1.15 per contests. Senior setter Marie Bruce of Southwestern quarterbacked the Pirates’ to a 2-2 record at the SCAC West/East Divisional this past weekend. She totaled 132 assists in 14 games and also was second on the team with 43 digs. Bruce also recorded 19 kills with just four attack errors for a .273 attack percentage. She also had three block solos and two block assists for SU. Centre, Colorado College, Hendrix, Millsaps, Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Rhodes did not play.
 


WEEK 6

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Oct. 1st through Sunday, Oct. 7th)

CAROLINE KEENER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior setter from Plano, Texas, and KAITLIN LISTOL OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior right side from Richardson, Texas, have been named SCAC Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 1 through Sunday, October 7.

Keener led the fifth-ranked Tigers to five wins last week, including a mid-week win over Texas Lutheran and a weekend sweep in SCAC play at Rhodes College.

Keener averaged over 12 assists per game at the SCAC West-Central Tournament at Rhodes over the weekend, as well as 3.90 digs and 0.90 blocks per game to go along with her 1.40 kills per game and .438 hitting percentage.

She tallied 45 or more assists twice over the weekend, reaching 53 in the match against Southwestern. She has now recorded 45 or more assists eight times this season. Keener led the Tigers to a .276 hitting percentage for the entire week, and a .282 clip in conference play.

Keener finished with double-doubles against Birmingham-Southern and Southwestern this weekend, giving her seven total for the season.

For the season, Keener has totaled 759 assists and 163 digs this season, which is good for an average of 11.16 assists and 2.40 digs per game. She is also hitting .326 on the season, averaging 1.31 kills per game.

Listol led the 16th-ranked ‘Roos to a four match sweep at the SCAC West/Central Divisional at Rhodes. 

Listol averaged 5.29 kills per game with a hitting percentage of .468 and also added 3.36 digs and 1.5 blocks per game. Listol had 21 kills against both Hendrix and Colorado College and had a high of 19 digs against Hendrix.

For the season, Listol is leading the SCAC in both hitting percentage (.409) and in kills (5.14 per game) and is fourth in blocks (1.22 per game) and seventh in service aces (0.51 per game).


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year middle blocker Emily Perkins of Colorado College posted four double-doubles at last week's SCAC matches at Rhodes College. She averaged 5.0 kills and 4.38 digs per game, and also had 24 total blocks (7 solo, 17 assisted). Perkins leads the Tigers in kills and blocks, and is second in digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Samantha Lingamfelter of Southwestern averaged 6.4 digs per game
for the week, totaling 141 digs in five matches. She had 25 in the Pirates’ five-set loss to Division II Texas A&M International an then at the SCAC Divisional she recorded a new career-high with 41 digs against Birmingham-Southern. Lingamfelter then followed that up with 31 digs against Rhodes and had her third 30-dig match on Sunday against fifth-ranked Trinity. She also added five service aces on the week. Sophomore outside hitter Katherine Delavan of Rhodes, in five matches on the week, nailed 58 kills - averaging 3.0 kills per game - while anchoring the defense on the left side. Delavan had 66 digs in 19 games for a 3.47 digs per game average. DePauw, Hendrix, Millsaps, Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Centre did not play.
 


WEEK 5

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Sept. 24th through Sunday, Sept. 30th)

LAURA JENSEN OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore setter from Daphne, Ala., has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 24 through Sunday, September 30.

Jensen led the Lynx to a 4-0 sweep at the SCAC East/Central #1 hosted this past weekend by Hendrix College.

Jensen played in 11 games on the weekend and amassed 135 assists, good enough for a 12.27 assist per game average - almost two assists more per game than she was averaging heading into the divisional. She also had 17 kills on the weekend along with 24 digs.

For the season, Jensen is fifth in the SCAC with 10.78 assists per game and is 19th in the league in hitting percentage (.252).


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year outside hitter Kate Hall of Millsaps
had another outstanding weekend in helping the Majors claim 3 of 4 matches in the SCAC Central/East Divisional in Conway, Ark. Hall hit a solid .350 for the tournament and averaged 4.3 kills per game. The San Antonio native had her best match thus far in a Millsaps uniform, picking up a season and career-high 25 kills against only four errors in a thrilling 3-2 win over Centre College. She also had 12 digs, four blocks and four aces as the Majors improved to 9-13 (4-4 SCAC) overall after starting the season 2-10. Senior right side Kaitlin Listol of Austin College had a record breaking weekend as the ’Roos won all four of their matches in the Austin College Classic. Listol became the program’s all-time leader in kills when she scored the first point in a 3-2 win over Ouachita Baptist on Friday, and finished with 58 kills in 12 games over the weekend for an average of 4.83 kills-per-game. Listol had a hitting percentage of .380 and also averaged 3.17 digs per game. After her historic weekend she now has 1,575 kills in her career. Junior middle hitter Adrienne Cobb of DePauw finished the weekend with a .359 hitting percentage and averaged 2.67 kills per game as the Tigers finished 2-2 at the SCAC Central/East Division #1. Cobb also had nine blocks - averaging 0.75 per game. First-year right side Sarah Fuller of Hendrix had a well-rounded week for the Warriors as she played in all 13 games in all four matches during their SCAC Central/East Divisional. Fuller had 21 kills (1.62 kills per game), 13 blocks (6 solo, 7 assists, 1.00 block per game), nine aces (0.69 aces per game) , 11 digs and two set assists for the weekend. Her nine aces and 13 blocks were team highs. Fuller hit .155 for the week, but had no blocking or ball-handling errors. Centre, Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Colorado College, Southwestern and Trinity did not play.
 


WEEK 4

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Sept. 17th through Sunday, Sept. 23rd)

MORGAN BALLARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year outside hitter/middle hitter from Sherman, Texas, and LESLIE SCHORNACK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from Plano, Texas, have been named SCAC Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 17 through Sunday, September 23.

Ballard put together four outstanding matches at the SCAC East/West Divisional, helping the ‘Roos to a 4-0 record including a five game win over Colorado College in which she had 19 kills in 26 attempts to go along with 11 total blocks.

For the weekend Ballard had 42 kills in 62 attempts with only five hitting errors for a percentage of .597 to go along with an average of 3.5 kills per game. The freshman also had six solo blocks and 16 block assists for an average of 1.83 blocks per game.


Schornack led Trinity to four wins at the SCAC East-West Divisional last weekend, keeping the fifth-ranked Tigers unbeaten atop the conference standings this season.

Schornack finished with 29 kills (2.9 per game) and a .385 hitting percentage for the weekend, also tallying 23 total blocks – an incredible 2.30 blocks per game. She recorded just four errors in 65 total attacks, and was second on the team with 44 total points for the weekend.

The highlight of her weekend came against nationally-ranked Southwestern – a match in which she nearly broke the school record for blocks. Schornack recorded 13 blocks against the Pirates, coming within one block of Trinity’s all-time record for a single match. She also had 14 kills and hit a blistering .464 in the four games, making just one error in 28 total attacks.

For the season, Schornack has now raised her hitting percentage to .311, totaling 144 kills (2.57 per game) and just 33 errors in 357 attacks. She leads the team in hitting percentage as well as in blocks, with 87 total blocks this season – an average of 1.55 per game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Brown of Southwestern
had a big weekend offensively for the Pirates as she led the team with 61 kills on 118 attempts for a solid .364 hitting percentage. Brown set a personal-best in the team’s 3-1 win over DePauw with 23 kills along with seven digs and a pair of blocks. The following match, she set a new career-best with a .786 attack percentage by notching 11 kills with no errors on 14 attempts. Brown also had three services aces, four blocks and 13 digs on the weekend. Sophomore middle blocker Emily Perkins of Colorado College led the Tigers to a 3-1 mark during the SCAC East/West Divisional at Centre College. Perkins led the way with 49 kills while hitting .273 and had a team-high 47 digs, 17 service aces and 19 (nine solo) total blocks. She averaged 3.27 kills, 3.13 digs, 1.2 service aces and 1.27 blocks per game. Perkins currently leads the Tigers in blocks (0.89 per game) and is second in kills (3.03 per game) and service aces (0.52 per game). First-year outside hitter Becca Clancy of Hendrix started all six matches for the Warriors this week and played in 18 of 20 games, helping lead the Warriors to 5-1 record for the week. Clancy led the team with 74 kills on the week, for an average of 4.11 per game. With just 13 errors on 172 attempts, Clancy finished the week with a hitting percentage of .355. She also averaged 1.61 digs per game with 29 total for the week.  Rounding out her stats for the week were six total blocks (3 solo, 3 assists), three service aces and one set assist. Clancy currently has 150 kills on the year, a team high, with just 54 errors on 439 attacks, she has a hitting percentage of .219. Her 82 digs and 1.95 dig per game average are the third highest on the team. First-year outside hitter Kate Hall and first-year right side Heather Keenan of Millsaps are establishing themselves as one of the best one-two punches on the Majors’ squad through the first half of the year, earning All-Tournament Team honors in the Pensacola Christian College Tournament last weekend and helping Millsaps win 4 of 5 matches. Hall averaged 9.2 kills, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 aces in five matches along with a team-high 13 kills in a 3-2 win over Pensacola Christian. Keenan hit .213 from the floor, including a blistering .325 with 16 kills in a 3-2 win over 2005 & 2006 USCAA National Champions Florida College. The freshman averaged 9.5 kills, 4.0 aces and 3.0 digs in four matches played. Centre, DePauw, Oglethorpe and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Rhodes did not play.
 


WEEK 3

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Sept. 10th through Sunday, Sept. 16th)

LESLIE SCHORNACK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from Plano, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September 16.

Schornack led the seventh-ranked Tiger volleyball team to four wins at the SCAC West/Central Tournament at Colorado College this weekend, putting her team atop the conference standings in the early season.

Schornack finished with a team-best 38 kills and 16 blocks in her 13 games of action on Friday and Saturday, and averaged 2.92 kills and 1.23 blocks per game and totaled 51.0 points for the weekend.

Schornack also hit .365 for the tournament, recording just seven errors in 85 attacks.

For the season, Schornack is second on the team with 115 kills (2.50 per game) and holds a team-leading .295 hitting percentage (29 errors, 292 total attacks). She also leads the Tigers with 64 blocks (1.39 per game) and 164.5 points this season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter Anna Clithero of Colorado College became the sixth player in the school history to eclipse the 1,000 career kill mark. She reached the milestone with 22 kills in a five-game victory over Birmingham-Southern College. Clithero posted double-doubles in three of four SCAC matches last weekend to give her six on the season. Her 22 kills against BSC were a season high as was her 28 digs against Southwestern University. Clithero averaged 4.7 digs and 3.9 kills per game in four SCAC matches. Senior setter Marie Bruce of Southwestern helped the Pirates to a 2-2 record during the first weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Bruce quarterbacked the SU offense with 129 assists over four matches, and also added 43 digs and 11 kills. Senior outside hitter Emily Sadtler of Rhodes had 38 kills along with 58 digs to lead the Lynx to 2-2 overall record this weekend during the opening weekend of SCAC play at Colorado College. Sadtler not only anchored the defense for the Lynx but she was impeccable during serve receive throughout the weekend, passing a 2.5 out of 3 for the Lynx. Senior middle hitter Kim Hamer of DePauw posted a .500 attack percentage (45 kills, five errors, 80 total attempts) and averaged 4.09 kills per game as the Tigers went 3-0 on the week. Hamer also averaged 1.18 blocks per game. She hit an incredible .696 in Thursday's 3-0 victory over Webster. Austin, Centre, Hendrix, Millsaps and Oglethorpe did not nominate anyone for the award, and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 2

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Monday, Sept. 3rd through Sunday, Sept. 9th)

KAITLIN LISTOL OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior right side from Richardson, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9.

Listol continued the blistering start to her senior campaign, averaging 5.54 kills and 3.23 digs per game as the 12th-ranked Kangaroos improved to 9-0 with four victories at the University of Dallas Invitational. 

Listol helped the ’Roos remain undefeated with her .512 hitting percentage, and also had team highs with 24 blocks and 11 serving aces. 

So far this year, Listol is leading the SCAC in both kills (5.33 kills per game) and hitting percentage (.458) and is also sixth in service aces (0.57 per game).


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior setter Caroline Keener of Trinity
led the Tigers to a 4-0 record and a tournament victory at the Trinity River City Classic over the weekend, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. She finished the weekend with 145 total assists, averaging 10.36 assists per game in 14 games played. She also tallied 21 kills (1.50 per game) and 18 digs (1.29 per game) to go with nine blocks (0.64 per game). Against nationally-ranked Pacific Lutheran, Keener scored a rare triple-double by recording 10 kills and 10 digs to go with 51 assists in Trinity’s 3-2 win.  Keener also had six blocks, narrowly missing out on a chance for a quadruple-double. She also finished with 45 assists and three blocks against Hardin-Simmons – a 2006 NCAA playoff team. For the season, Keener is averaging 10.48 assists per game and has led the seventh-ranked Tigers to an 8-1 start to the season, losing only to a Division II team. Keener is also hitting .343 for the year, averaging 1.27 kills per game, and has 60 total digs (1.82 per game). Senior outside hitter Katy Lukaszewski of Southwestern was named the tournament Most Valuable Player at Washington & Lee this past weekend as she helped the Pirates to a 4-0 performance.  The senior outside hitter delivered 53 kills with a .308 attack percentage. She reached double-digits in kills in every match and averaged 4.07 kills per game. Lukaszewski also led the team in digs with 45. She had three block solos and three block assists to go along with four service aces. Senior right side Christina Dickerson of DePauw was named to the Hanover College Invitational all-tournament team after leading her team to a 4-0 finish and the tournament championship. Dickerson averaged 2.73 kills per game and had a .321 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Laura Jensen of Rhodes had 18 kills with just three errors on 48 attempts (.313 hitting percentage) as the Lynx went 2-2 at the Emory Invitational. Jensen also had 116 assists, three service aces, 26 digs and three blocks on the weekend. First-year outside hitter Becca Clancy of Hendrix led the team in digs this week which was also her first week as a collegiate volleyball player.  Clancy had a total of 44 kills this week for an average of 3.67 kills per game and she had a high of 21 kills against Williams Baptist. Clancy had just 16 errors on 153 attempts for a hitting percentage of .207. She also had two service aces, 15 digs and four total blocks on the week. Centre, Colorado College, Millsaps and Oglethorpe did not nominate anyone for the award, and Sewanee did not play.
 


WEEK 1

SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week
(For matches played from Friday, Aug. 31st through Sunday, Sept. 2nd)

ANNA CLITHERO OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior outside hitter from West Linn, Ore., has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 31 through Monday, September 3.

Clithero was voted MVP of the Molten Pikes Peak Challenge by the opposing coaches for leading the Tigers to four consecutive three-game victories. She finished the tournament with a .389 hitting percentage while averaging 3.90 kills and 3.50 digs per game.

With the tournament title on the line against the Rochester Institute of Technology, Clithero posted her second straight double-double with match highs of 14 kills and 15 digs. She hit .619 for the match with only one hitting error on 21 attacks.

She also had a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs against Northland College.

With her 39 kills on the weekend, Clithero became the ninth player in the program’s history to reach the 900-kill plateau for her career, finishing the tournament with 904. She also surpassed the 800-dig mark and now ranks 12th on CC’s all-time list with 323.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Audra Gentry of Southwestern had a big weekend for the Pirates as the second-year player stepped in to the starting lineup and averaged 3.85 kills per game to lead SU to a 4-0 opening weekend. Gentry totaled 50 kills in four matches, including a career-high 17 kills against the University of Texas-Dallas. For the weekend, she had a hitting percentage of .216, and also totaled 35 digs, 12 service aces and nine total blocks. Junior setter Caroline Keener of Trinity averaged 10.42 assists per game during the opening weekend, leading the Tigers to a 4-1 record that included wins over three Division II teams. She tallied 49 assists in the season opener at Texas Lutheran University, then finished with 45 assists against Division II Tarleton State. She has also recorded 30 or more assists in each of the team’s first five matches. Keener totaled 198 assists in five matches, as well as hitting .404 (22 kills, 1 error, 52 total attacks) in 19 games. She also had 25 digs and eight blocks for the team. Keener has recorded over 1,800 assists in her career now, passing current student assistant Elisabeth Stuart to move into fifth in school history. Senior middle blocker Kim Hamer of DePauw was named to the Capital University Invitational all-tournament team as she led the Tigers to a 2-2 mark over the weekend - including a win over 10th-ranked Calvin. Hamer averaged 3.57 kills per game and hit .271 and also averaged 0.43 service aces per game. Hamer continued to demonstrate her superb blocking abilities - averaging 1.79 blocks per game with 25 total blocks over the weekend. First-year middle blocker Stephanie Parazak of Rhodes had 42 kills with only nine hitting errors for a .384 hitting percentage in her first weekend of collegiate action. She also had 11 blocks as the 13th-ranked Lynx went 2-2 Pacific (Ore.) University Boxer Invitational. Sophomore setter Alison Burt of Oglethorpe led the Petrels to a 2-2 finish at the Oglethorpe Classic and for her efforts was named to the all-tournament team. She led the Petrels in almost every statistical category, including kills (2.69 per game), assists (6.31 per game), and aces (0.77 per game). Burt hit .202 from the floor (35 Kills, 14 errors in 104 chances) and also played stellar defense with 30 digs in four matches. Austin, Centre and Millsaps did not nominate anyone for the award, and Hendrix and Sewanee did not play.
