Colorado College and Rhodes honored by AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky.
- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced
this past Tuesday that a record 354 teams earned the AVCA Team
Academic Award for the 2007-2008 season. The number smashes
the previous high mark of 308 schools set a year ago. Colorado
College and Rhodes College were the only SCAC teams to receive
the honor.

Oglethorpe Announces Hiring of Matthews as Head Volleyball
Coach

The Oglethorpe University athletics
department is pleased to announce the hiring of Kurt Matthews
to the position of Head Volleyball Coach. Matthews joins the
Oglethorpe athletics family after several years of coaching
and promoting volleyball at the club level as well as on
college campuses.

Trinity slips to sixth; Austin
drops to 13th; Southwestern re-enters rankings at 25th
in CSTV/AVCA Top 25
Colorado
College drops out of rankings
After all were eliminated from
the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, three of the league's four
teams ranked prior to the tourney dropped in this week's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll. Trinity University
(35-3) slipped from third to sixth and Austin College (38-6)
dropped from 11th to 13th. Colorado College (22-11), who was
ranked 25th last week, dropped out of the poll this week - but
did still receive votes. Southwestern University (30-12) moved
from receiving votes to 25th in this week's rankings. It is
the Pirates first appearance in the Top 25 since Oct. 9.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

behind to knock off Southwestern; Austin College eliminated
from NCAA South Region Volleyball Tournament

Just as it had
done last week in the SCAC title match against Austin College,
Trinity University fought back from a 2-0 deficit to take a
3-2 victory - this time over Southwestern University - in the
semifinals of the NCAA Division III South Region Volleyball
Tournament at Austin College. Meanwhile, Austin's season ended
later in the evening with a 3-0 loss to Emory University in
the other semifinal match-up.

Southwestern advance in NCAA Volleyball Tourney

Texas -
Austin College
and Southwestern University both won their first round NCAA
Volleyball match-ups on Thursday night. Third-seeded Austin
needed five games to dispatch sixth-seeded Texas Lutheran and
fourth-seeded Southwestern swept the fifth-seed Washington &
Lee. Austin takes on second-seeded Emory University and
Southwestern plays SCAC-rival and top-seeded Trinity
University Friday evening.

In her 23rd year at the helm of
the Tigers, Julie Jenkins has continued a successful tenure at
Trinity University leading her squad to a No. 3 ranking in the
past four CSTV/AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Polls of 2007
heading into the NCAA Tournament. For her team's success,
Jenkins was named AVCA Division III South Region Coach of the
Year - the second consecutive year she has earned the honor.

Trinity remains third; Austin

There
was little change for the three
SCAC schools ranked in this week's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll. Trinity University
(34-2), fresh off its 10th-straight SCAC title, is in third
for the fourth consecutive week. SCAC runner-up Austin College (37-5)
improved one place to 11th and Colorado College (22-10), who
finished in fifth place at this past weekend's conference
championships, slipped from 23rd to a tie for 25th.
Southwestern University (29-11), which surged to a third-place
SCAC Tournament finish, received votes in the rankings for the
first time since the Oct. 16 poll.

SCAC sends four
schools to NCAA Volleyball Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
- When the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Committee announced the
field of 61 teams for the 2007 Division III Women's Volleyball Championship,
four SCAC schools were invited to participate for the second
consecutive year. Trinity University earned the
league's automatic bid and Austin College, Colorado College and Southwestern
University all received at-large bids.

Trinity wins
10th consecutive SCAC Volleyball title;
defeats Austin College 3-2 in championship match
SHERMAN, Texas
-
Trinity University fought back from a 2-0 deficit to even the
match at two games apiece and then had to fight off three
match points in the fifth and deciding game to take a
hard-earned 3-2 victory over Austin College in the title game
of the 2007 SCAC Volleyball Tournament.

Austin College takes three of
four major awards in 2007 All-SCAC Volleyball voting
SHERMAN, Texas
-
Austin College, which has already posted a program-best 35
wins and has been ranked in AVCA Top 25 all season, was
rewarded for its highly successful season with three of the
league’s four major postseason awards in exclusive
all-conference voting by the head coaches of the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference.

SCAC releases
2007 Volleyball Tournament Bracket
SUWANEE,
Ga. - The 2007 SCAC Volleyball Tournament bracket has been
released by the conference office. The championship event,
which will be held Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3 on the campus of
Austin College in Sherman, Texas, is the first post-season
volleyball tournament the conference has conducted since 1999.
Third-ranked Trinity University is the top seed for the
11-team event, which features five teams that have been
nationally ranked at some point during the 2007 season.

There

(28-1), who has won 25 straight matches, is in third for the
second consecutive week. Austin College (32-3) and Colorado College (19-8)
both moved up one notch in the poll and are now ranked 12th
and 24th respectively. Austin is also sporting an impressive
win streak and has won its last 22 straight matches. For the
first time this season, neither Rhodes College or Southwestern
University received votes in the poll.

Birmingham-Southern finishes 4-0 at
final divisional of 2007 regular season
GREENCASTLE,
Ind. - Birmingham-Southern was the only team to manage a
perfect 4-0 mark at the SCAC Central/East Divisional #2,
hosted this past weekend by DePauw University. Centre College
and the host school, DePauw, both went 3-1 with each team's
sole loss coming to Birmingham-Southern.

Week

Morgan Ballard, a freshman middle blocker for
then-No. 14 Austin College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA
Division III National Player of the Week for helping her team
to three wins last week, including a win over nationally
ranked Southwestern (Texas).

SCAC continues with three schools ranked
in this week's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll, but the make-up of those
three changed for the first time this season. Trinity University
(26-1) continues its climb up the rankings is now in third -
up one place from last week. Austin College (26-3) also moved
up one position and is now 13th. Colorado College (18-8)
replaced Southwestern University as the third SCAC team in the
rankings and enters this week's poll at 25th. Southwestern (16-9),
who was 23rd last week, dropped from the rankings for the
first time this season. The Pirates, along with Rhodes College
(14-10) both received votes in the Top 25 poll.

Birmingham-Southern and Rhodes perfect at SCAC Central/East Divisional
CONWAY,
Ark. - Both Birmingham-Southern College and Rhodes College
went a perfect 4-0 a the Central/East Divisional #1 played
Saturday and Sunday on the campus of Hendrix College.
Birmingham-Southern defeated Oglethorpe (3-0), Sewanee (3-0),
DePauw (3-0) and Hendrix (3-0) while Rhodes defeated Sewanee
(3-2), DePauw (3-1), Centre (3-0) and Millsaps (3-0).

prepares to host SCAC Central/East Divisional
CONWAY,
Ark. - Hendrix College welcomes the schools from the
Central Division and the schools from the East Division to its
campus for the 2007 Central/East I Divisional. Hendrix gets to
showcase its brand new Wellness and Athletics Center as the
Warriors host their first-ever conference event since the
facility opened last month.

Trinity goes
undefeated at highly competitive SCAC Central/West Divisional
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Seventh-ranked Trinity University was the only team to go
undefeated at the SCAC Central/West Divisional, defeating #12
Austin College on Sunday to cap its 4-0 run. Of the eight
teams competing at Colorado College, three were nationally
ranked (Austin, Southwestern and Trinity) and two others
(Rhodes and Colorado College) were ranked or receiving votes
in the pre-season.

Colorado College to
play host to SCAC Central/West Divisional
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Colorado College will host the first SCAC Volleyball
Divisional Tournament of the 2007 season this Friday and
Saturday. The four schools from the Central Division
(Birmingham-Southern, Hendrix, Millsaps and Rhodes) will
compete in a round-robin format against the four schools from
the West Divsion (Austin, Colorado, Southwestern and Trinity).

The SCAC has three schools ranked in the
first regular season CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll. Trinity University
(8-1) leads the way and remains at seventh - just as it was in
the preseason rankings. Austin College (9-0) improved from 14th
to 12th and Southwestern University (8-0) moved four places
from 19th to 15th. Rhodes College (4-5), which was 13th in the
preseason rankings, dropped out of the Top 25, but did receive
the third-most votes of any school outside of the rankings.

Trinity picked
to win 10th straight SCAC Volleyball title
SUWANEE, Ga. -
In exclusive
voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (SCAC), Trinity University has been selected to win
its 10th-consecutive conference title. Coach Julie Jenkins’
Tigers received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes and
118 points total in the preseason poll.

The Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference (SCAC) has four schools ranked in the preseason CSTV/AVCA Top
25 regular season poll for the 2007 season. Trinity University is seventh,
Rhodes College is 13th, Austin College is 14th and
Southwestern University is 19th. Additionally, Colorado
College received votes and is seven places outside of the Top
25. The SCAC was the only conference to have more than three
teams ranked.
